Posted on Wed 22nd Mar, 2017 - hotnigerianjobs.com --- (0 comments)

The Youth and Women Empowerment Congress (YWEC) has put measures in place to empower no fewer than 1000 youth and women entrepreneurs in the country. To bring its initiative to fruition, Young Entrepreneurs of Nigeria (YEN) last week hosted over 1000 delegates from across the country at NECA Event Centre in Ikeja, Lagos, in which it sensitized the youths and young women on the need for early start-ups.

National President of YEN, Mr. Chris Kohol at a press briefing yesterday said his vision for the group was to empower the women and youths on capacity building and technology.

He noted that a portal for application was opened for 10 days prior to the day of the event upon which more than 3,000 applications were received from interested applicants.

He expressed gratitude to the speakers at the event who made out time from their busy schedules to take part in the congress.

"They have delivered and participants are well impressed they will go back to their various vocations to implement all that they have learnt today and they will have a blossom business,” he added.

Kohol stressed that the YEN way of reducing unemployment in the country was to create more entrepreneurs, empower them with funding, capacity building, business tools.

"This is what has been done here today and at the same time, we want to see how we can inspire and encourage them to do greater things on their own and be self reliant. So, at the end of the day they also get to employ other people, thereby creating more entrepreneurs’ which is our strategy to conquering unemployment,” he said.

He also added that the organization has plans of creating more awareness about its mission and vision to youths across Nigeria through Social- media platforms, TV stations, newspapers and radio stations.

The congress had in attendance co-founder of Red Africa, Adebola Williams, Founder Slum2 School, Otto Orondaam, Founder/CEO Slot Systems Ltd, Nnamdi Ezeigbo, Founder Gazelle Academy, Muna Onuzo who was represented by Mr. Onye Mba Uzoukwu, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Banyan Tree and Mrs. Abosede Alimi of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), among others.

The YWEC is an annual event initiated by YEN to help empower youths and women entrepreneurs at all stages of business development. The main aim of the congress is to empower young entrepreneurs with the right business capacity, networking opportunities, mentorship, business funding insights and donation of a 100% free professional business websites.

YEN is the umbrella body of Nigerian young entrepreneurs with over 200, 000 members that seek to empower youth entrepreneurs with finance, capacity building, network, business tools and also champion the cause of youth entrepreneurship development at local, regional and national levels across the country.

The congress is one of the life-changing programs initiated to empower young entrepreneurs and women, creating jobs and curb unemployment amongst youth. This conscious effort is to help grow and support aspiring young entrepreneurs and women in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector to boost their businesses and generate revenue with technology on the go.
