We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Nigeria Joint Response (NJR) Consortium Knowledge Management Officer

Location:
  Borno

Introduction
  • Save the Children (SC) is leading on an 8 months Dutch Relief Alliance (DRA) funded Nigeria Joint Response (NJR) Consortium program (of 7 INGOs) in Nigeria, which seeks to provide through diverse interventions, urgent and lifesaving water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), food security and livelihoods (FSL), nutrition and health support to persons affected by the humanitarian crises in the North East of Nigeria.
  • The Knowledge Management (KM) Officer, will lead knowledge management across the program through varied approaches in order to inform and influence a wide variety of stakeholders including government, donor, community stakeholders, humanitarian response coordination structures/fora and other INGOs.
  • The Officer will work under the supervision of the Consortium Coordinator in Nigeria and in collaboration relevant stakeholders, to develop compelling materials to support advocacy, communication, capacity building and KM efforts of the consortium. The role would lead on the set-up of strong systems to ensure communication within and without the consortium.
Key Roles
Work closely with the NJR Consortium Coordinator and in collaboration relevant staff in the 7 NJR partner INGOs, their implementing CSOs, and beneficiary communities to:

Documentation/Communication (External and Internal):
  • Source for, develop and disseminate compelling print and online communication, advocacy and knowledge management materials
  • Contribute to the preparation of timely and quality programme reports in collaboration with relevant technical and M&E staff
  • Lead the timely development and approval of concise, quality and appealing infographics, case studies, good practices, briefs, sitreps, newsletters and other relevant communication materials about the program
  • Work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure adherence to NJR visibility and branding guidelines
  • Explore and implement opportunities (including the photo gallery and other innovative tools) to communicate about the program with a wide variety of state, national and international level stakeholders (including the Dutch Relief Alliance)
  • Produce as relevant reports, briefing papers, presentations and communication tools (for accountability and fund raising) for internal and external audiences.
  • Ensure tools and strong systems are in place to bring out, document and share programme learning.
  • Lead on the production of key messages points, press releases, and other media materials related to the programme, that adhere to the communication protocols of the lead agency and its partners as well as take into consideration prevailing security situation and beneficiary consent and dignity.
  • Identify and maximise opportunities to raise the visibility and profile of the NJR, both in-country and internationally.
  • Update content on the NJR website
Strategy Development and Implementation:
  • Formulate/document and share (through relevant tools and platforms), key messages, key actions and lessons learnt got from relevant internal and external program documents (including reports, research articles), audiovisual materials and fora (including sector-working groups and communities of practice)
  • Support the development in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, a KM strategy for the NJR focusing on short and long term objectives
  • Keep abreast with, document and share, policies as well as information from relevant structures (including sector working groups, government and humanitarian coordinating bodies), that would influence support provided to communities and persons affected by the humanitarian crises in the North East.
  • Build the capacity of relevant NJR stakeholders (including partner INGOs and CSOs) in KM and communication.
Collaboration and Representation:
  • Support the building, nurturing and development of strategic relationships with relevant projects, structures, coordination bodies and partners.
  • Develop and maintain a network of external contacts with key individuals in relevant government, NGO sector, civil society and the media.
  • Where required, represent Save the Children at relevant advocacy, learning, sharing, policy formulation, and KM opportunities, at national and international levels.
  • Work closely with relevant advocacy, communication and campaign staff of the lead agency (Save the Children Netherlands and Nigeria) and partner NJR INGOs
Influencing and External Representation:
  • Develop good knowledge of state and national government structures, parliamentary and political processes and key decision making structures and how to influence them.
  • Provide support to the National Programme Manager and other team members conducting advocacy visits to the states as well as at Federal Level.
  • Undertake a range of KM activities to inform and persuade policy makers, including donors and politicians, of the value of Save the Children’s policy recommendations.
  • Build systems for research, analyses and documentation that contribute to evidence-based KM, and advocacy towards relevant internal and external stakeholders
Other Roles
Monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL):
  • Make regular visits to partner sites, to capture, document and share relevant materials which would contribute to program reporting
  • Contribute to relevant analyses as well initiatives related to the development of relevant strategy and sector documents and plans.
  • Contribute to the timely development of periodic reports (post-distribution monitoring (PDM) reports, evidence-based project impact reports etc.)
  • Ensure the findings and best practices of past phases of the program as well as other relevant initiative feed into program implementation
  • Contribute to the development and deployment of relevant programme MEAL systems and tools
Communication for Behavioral impact:
  • In collaboration with relevant stakeholders, contribute to the development of appropriate mechanisms and tools and mechanisms that lead to sustained positive behavioral change
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
  • Strong, compelling, innovative and audience-sensitive writing and communication skills
  • At least a Bachelor in Communication, Knowledge management, MEAL or other related domains
  • Experience negotiating, developing and implementing successful partnerships with multiple stakeholders
  • Proven ability to influence change at an operational and strategic levels
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • A high level of written and spoken English
  • Good interview skills
  • Proven mastery of communication tools (Publisher, PowerPoint, internet, twitter etc.) 
  • Capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible in difficult and at time insecure working circumstances.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to travel extensively including to implementation sites of NJR partner agencies
  • Commitment to the aims, mandate and values of Save the Children (SC).
Desirable:
  • Experience working in a complex country programs in an emergency response or fragile state
  • Previous experience in a similar role especially on a project/program funded by an institutional donor
  • Good knowledge of the North East of Nigeria, its culture, local languages and community dynamics
