University of Ibadan (UI), established in 1948, first as a constituent college of the University of London, became a full fledged University in 1962 and has continued to blaze the trail as the foremost Nigerian University and the crucible of human capacity development in Nigeria and indeed in sub-Saharan Africa. On account of its size, the numbers of faculties and institutes, the huge number of courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and competent reach to the larger society through the output and community services, UI remains the flagship of higher education in Nigeria.

Job Title: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Associate/Assistant Professor)
Area Of Specialization
Plant Breeding (60% Teaching, 40% research)
The appointee will teach core plant breeding courses including quantitative genetics and statistics for agronomic experimentation, and develop a strongexternally funded breeding programme on one of the important tropical crops and another that is under-exploited.
A strong background in the use of biotechnological techniques for crop improvement is required. Candidates must have considerable knowledge and experience in genomics and molecular plant breeding. The preferred candidate will have exceptional ability to forge collaborative research. Appointee will also supervise the research of regular undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University of Ibadan as well as those of the Pan-African University.
Qualifications:
- PhD degree in Farming Systems
- Postdoctoral experience
- Teaching experience at the university level
- Research experience in tropical farming systems
- Learned publications
- Ability to attract and manage grants
Remuneration
Competitive and commensurate with background and experience. Accommodation is available on the campus of the University for International Staff. Appointees who also teach courses and supervise students’ research in the PAU plant breeding programme will, in addition to their salary, earn top-ups. Candidates can opt for renewable contract appointments or have their appointments confirmed to retirement age (65 years) after three years based on performance.
