We are recruiting to fill the vacant position below:

Job Title: Programme Associate (Nutrition) - G6

Location: Maiduguri, Borno

Key Accountabilities (not all-inclusive)
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Nutrition Unit, the INP Associate /focal point will be responsible for the following activities:
  • Be a focal point for all local NGOs, providing coordination and technical support monitoring of the implementation of the Nutrition programmes;
  • Conduct distribution monitoring and provide distribution updates as per the agreed schedule and act as an alternate to the unit reports focal person;
  • Provide information and updates on INP activities as required; informing the Head of Nutrition and as necessary Head of Programme on emerging issues in INP that require urgent attention;
  • Maintain close relations and collaboration with UNICEF whom WFP is partnering with in the INP, acting as their link to ensure all activities are implemented according to the agreed protocol;
  • Liaise with M&E and VAM units to ensure INP activity implementation is enriched with well-designed outcome monitoring assessments and findings are accurately reported and used to inform implementation improvements;
  • Support the 27 health facilities to implement INP activities according to the agreed protocol and consolidating their respective reports and ensuring they are well captured by the M&E unit.
  • Work in collaboration with the identified implementing partner for the Shani INP pilot project to ensure both facility and community based components including setting up of the nutrition care groups are in place and cash transfers are effected as planned;
  • Participate and support the design and development of the Shani pilot project in collaboration with UNICEF and the implementing partners ensuring that the WFP contribution to the pilot is clearly articulated and integrated within the implementation framework.
  • Be responsible for the unit’s internal business processes including procurement, preparing of forecasts for both operational and partner advances as well as managing the material and equipment inventory;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Programme Lifecycle & Food Assistance:    
  • Demonstrates ability to identify key variables and contextual factors that affect food assistance problems and programmes throughout the lifecycle to inform quality programme design or re-design.
Transfer Modalities (Food, Cash, Vouchers):   
  • Demonstrates ability to implement, under guidance, food assistance programmes deploying the full range of transfer modalities with an understanding of basic principles guiding modality selection and implementation.
Broad Knowledge of Specialized Areas:    
  • Understands basic technical concepts and data and their relevance to food assistance programmes.
Emergency Programming:   
  • Displays capacity to provide inputs into the development, implementation and realignment of high quality emergency programmes.
Strategic Policy Engagement w/Government:    
  • Understands and applies basic principles of engagement with government counterparts at the national or local level.
Qualifications
Education:
  • A University Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Health Sciences, International Health, Food Science or any other relevant field.
Language: 
  • Fluency in both oral and written communication in English is a requirement. Fluency in Hausa and Kanuri is desirable
Experience: 
  • At least 3 years working experience in humanitarian and or development work, preferably with a focus on public health and or nutrition interventions.
Skills & Knowledge:
  • Experience working in public health, food security and nutrition-related activities.
  • Experience and exposure to emergency nutrition or public health response is desirable.
  • Relevant experience and familiarity with social behavioural change communication interventions would be an asset.
  • Relevant experience in health/nutrition program/project development and implementation in any UN system agency or organization would be an asset.
