Cook/Steward at International Institute of Tropical Agriculture

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is an international non-profit research-for-development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Our R4D is anchored on the development needs of sub-Saharan Africa. We develop agricultural solutions with our partners to eliminate hunger and poverty by reducing producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture. We have more than 100 internationally recruited scientists from about 35 countries and 900 nationally recruited staff based in various stations across Africa.

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigerian Nationals for the positions of Cook/Steward at the Institute’s Headquarters, Ibadan

Job Title: Cook/Steward (2-year renewable contract)

Location: Ibadan

Duties
Successful candidate will among other things:

• Cook stock, sauces, soup, stews, vegetables and serve food for breakfast, lunch and dinner
• Write indent and collect food materials from the store
• Responsible for all House-keeping related work to the standard;
• Should be well acquainted with food safety, hygiene and ensure strict compliance;
• Correct and properly arrange chillers and tidy up kitchen store before and after service
• Carry out general cleaning of all food preparation and service areas and also the fridges, burners, working tables, pots, pans during and at close of work.
• Work in all sections of the kitchen (as may be directed by the supervisor) so as to develop multi skill
• Operate all cleaning machines including washing and drying machine for regular domestic laundry duties
• Carry out any other jobs assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualification and Experience

• Minimum of ND in Catering and Hotel Management with at least two years catering experience or WASC/ C&G plus 4 years relevant experience in a standard catering outfit.
• Successful candidate should be able to cook and present African & basic continental food,
• He/she should be willing to learn & accept responsibilities assigned. He must be a good team player and should be ready to work extra hours and during holidays.
• Experience in House keeping & custodian services will be added advantage.
