Job Title: Education Coordinator

Reporting to the Team Leader.
Job Summary
Lead and support the implementation of a package of intervention to achieve education related MDGs in the Project Cluster within a record time.
Purpose of the Position
Under the guidance of the Regional Education Specialist, MDG Centre, West & Central Africa, the Education Coordinator will work in close collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organizations in education in Kaduna state and Nigeria in general to contribute to the achievement of the MDG Goal in Education;
More specifically, s/he will:
- Ensure that girls and boys receive quality education and complete primary, secondary formal and non-formal education, (including Alternative Learning provision, literacy Technical/Vocational Training and Life-Skills).
- Oversee the implementation of a package of interventions is to accelerate the attainment of education related MDGs objectives at the Pampaida Cluster level.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Technical Support. High level technical support for the MVP project team on Education issues.
- Sector Coordination. Working with minimal supervision, develop and follow up with sector implementation plans. Work with the MVP Education Team, based in
- Bamako and New York to coordinate the design and implementation of key initiatives in the sector.
- Monitoring and Evaluation Support. Lead the sector in the implementation of monitoring and evaluation initiatives.
- National integrative. Ensure proper alignment with the government education policy and existing government-supported education programs.
- Ensure that the appropriate reporting requirements are met. Reporting. The Education Coordinator will report directly to the Team Leader, Pampaida, Nigeria. Will work closely with the Regional Education specialist, West and Central Africa based in Bamako.
Expected Deliverables;
- Community members are sensitized and mobilized to release their ward of pre-school and school ages to obtain basic primary education.
- Improved school enrolment and primary to secondary school transition sustained.
- Improved performance of all grades in school.
- Designed and implemented an incentive system to improve quality schooling.
- Educational activities are adequately monitored supervised and evaluated.
- Effective teaching and evaluating techniques designed.
- School feeding program for all primary school pupils in Pampaida with locally produced foods is sustained.
- Secondary school scholarship program for children of the less privileged is implemented.
- Adult education program is sustained and expanded to cover more adult illiterates.
- Integration of formal and informal (Islamic schools) is successfully implemented.
- Existing and new relationships with all stake holders in education sector-SUBEB, UNICEF, NCNE, etc. is strengthened.
Professional Qualifications/Requirements
- Advanced University degree in Education of related field.
- Minimum of 5 years profession experience in governmental and non-governmental organizations in Nigeria.
- An extended experience in providing technical support to development partners and governments in areas relevant to formal and non-formal Education in Nigeria;
- A good understanding of rights-based/results-based approach to programming with experience in addressing gender issues and coordinates.
- Ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts;
- Ability of effectively manage relationships with senior government officials, key stakeholders and to work as part of a team;
- Knowledge of adult education and community participatory approaches;
- Work experience in an integrated community development project;
- Team spirit with personal skills in communication and dissemination of knowledge;
- Demonstrate organization and problem solving skills, flexibility and ability to work under pressure;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
