Day Waterman College is a modern co-educational boarding school designed to provide an exciting learning environment for children between the ages of 11 - 16. We provide a broad-based education of international standard to meet global needs. The College is set on 35 hectares of natural landscape in Asu, near Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. Facilities and equipment of outstanding quality have been provided to support the learning environment, including access to safe recreational areas.

This College is built to educate young people to become leaders who will be at the forefront of the rapid economic and social development sweeping through Nigeria. The demands of living and working in a global economic community necessitates adaptable and flexible young people with the skill-set, knowledge and character to contribute and shape the future, and meet the many challenges that lie ahead.

Job Description
  • The exact role and specific responsibility the Principal will be agreed annually and will change regularly, to reflect the changing needs of the Day Waterman College and its growing Leadership Team.
  • The Principal is expected to lead on all aspects of the college such as curriculum development, timetabling, tracking, and analysis of results/data, behaviour management, pastoral care, external relations and community links, staff development, training and induction.
  • As the lead practitioner on the leadership team, the Principals will be centrally involved in the overall leadership and management of the college, and will help to establish a college culture that is both nurturing and rigorous.
Main purpose of the Job
  • Provide vision, leadership and direction for the college.
  • Create and maintain a productive learning environment which is engaging and fulfilling for all pupils.
  • Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the college.
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships in the community.
  • Ensure that the budget is efficiently and effectively managed.
Duties and Responsibilities
At this college the following areas have been highlighted as being of particular importance.

Shaping the future:
  • Motivate and work with others to promote a culture of inclusion within and across the college community where all views are valued and taken account of.
  • Demonstrate the vision and values of the college in every day work and practice and especially when implementing change and improvements in standards.
  • To work with the Governing Board to develop, implement and monitor a rolling Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP).
  • Ensure that the college's vision, SIP and self-evaluation process are clearly articulated, shared, understood and acted upon.
  • Ensure creativity, innovation and the use of new technologies to achieve excellence.
Leading, Learning and Teaching:
  • Demonstrate and articulate high expectations and set stretching targets for the whole college community.
  • Ensure that learning is at the centre of strategic planning and resource management.
  • Ensure there is a culture and ethos of challenge and support where all pupils can achieve success and are actively engaged in their learning.
  • Take a strategic role in the development of new and emerging technologies to enhance and extend the learning experience of pupils.
  • Determine, organise and implement a diverse, flexible curriculum and implement effective assessment framework.
  • Ensure a consistent and continuous college-wide focus on pupils’ achievement, using data and benchmarks to monitor progress in every child’s learning.
  • Implement strategies that maintain high standards of behaviour and attendance.
  • Monitor, evaluate and review classroom practice and promote improvement strategies.
  • Challenge under-performance of staff at all levels and ensure effective corrective action and followup.
Developing self and working with others:
  • Acknowledge the responsibilities and celebrate the achievements of individuals and teams.
  • Ensure effective planning, allocation, support and evaluation of work undertaken by teams and individuals, ensuring clear delegation of tasks and devolution of responsibilities.
  • Build on the collaborative learning culture within the college and actively engage with other colleges to build effective learning communities.
  • Treat people fairly, equitably and with dignity and respect to create and maintain a positive college culture.
  • Develop and maintain effective strategies and procedures for staff induction, professional development and performance review.
  • Develop and maintain a culture of high expectations for self and others and take appropriate action when necessary if performance is unsatisfactory.
  • Manage own workload and that of others to allow an appropriate work/life balance.
Managing the organisation:
  • Create an organisational structure, which reflects the college’s values, and enables the management systems, structures and processes to work effectively in line with legal requirements.
  • Recruit, retain and deploy staff appropriately and manage their workload to achieve the vision and goals of the college, implement successful performance management processes with all staff.
  • Manage the college's financial and human resources effectively and efficiently to achieve the college's educational goals and priorities.
  • Manage and organise the college environment efficiently and effectively to ensure that it meets the needs of the curriculum and health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure there is effective day-to-day organisation and running of the college.
  • Use and integrate a range of technologies effectively and efficiently to manage the college.
  • Ensure that the range, quality and use of all available resources is monitored, evaluated and reviewed to improve the quality of education for all pupils and provide value for money.
  • Ensure that, within an autonomous culture, policies and practices take account of the British and local circumstances, policies and initiatives.
Securing Accountability:
  • Develop a college ethos, which enables everyone to work collaboratively, share knowledge and understanding, celebrate successes and accept responsibility for outcomes.
  • Work with the governing board (providing information, objective advice and support) to enable it to meet its responsibilities.
  • Develop and present a coherent, understandable and accurate account of the college's performance to a range of audiences including governors, parents and carers.
  • To be the governing board's principal professional adviser.
  • To take opportunities to generate new income where appropriate.
  • To provide all necessary information to the Governing Board.
  • Reflect on personal contribution to college achievements and take account of feedback from others.
  • Ensure individual staff accountabilities are clearly defined, understood and agreed.
Strengthening Community:
  • Contribute to the development of the education system by, for example, sharing effective practice, working in partnership with other colleges and promoting innovative initiatives.
  • Create and maintain an effective partnership with parents and carers to support and improve pupils' achievement and personal developments.
  • Ensure learning experiences for pupils are linked into and integrated with the wider community.
  • Build a college culture and curriculum, which takes account of the richness and diversity of the college's communities.
  • Collaborate with other agencies in providing for the academic, spiritual, moral, social, emotional and cultural well-being of pupils and their families.
Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment
  • Ensure policies and procedures adopted by the governing board are fully implemented and followed by all staff.
  • Ensure staff and volunteers feel able to raise concerns about poor or unsafe practice in regard to children, and such concerns are addressed sensitively and effectively in a timely manner in accordance with agreed whistle blowing practices.
Marketing and Publicity:
  • To ensure that all areas of the school's website are regularly reviewed so that the information presented is both current and relevant.
  • To manage the production of the school brochure.
  • To seek out opportunities to raise the school's profile locally, regionally and nationally by ensuring the school's representation at and participation in key events and initiatives.
  • To ensure that every opportunity is taken to advertise entry to the school as appropriate.

Qualifications
  • Graduate level qualification or equivalent and Qualified Teachers Status.
  • Evidence of relevant professional development.
  • National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).
