President Goodluck Jonathan Wednesday, directed the immediate cancellation of the immigration recruitment exercise that led to the death of more than twenty applicants and scores of others injured.

Jonathan Orders Cancellation of Immigration Recruitment That Killed Over 20 Jobseekers

NIGERIA, Abuja : Job-seekers applying for work at the Nigerian immigration department scramble as their exam papers fly in the air, on the pitch of Abuja National Stadium, on March 15, 2014.

The presidential directive was given at today's Federal Executive Council meeting where the president further directed that all those who lost their loved ones would have automatic slot for three applicants, one of whom must be a woman.

While ordering that the ill-fated exercise be cancelled, the president ordered a fresh exercise to be conducted by an inter-ministerial panel under the chairmanship of the Federal Civil Service Commission.

The panel has the Comptroller-General of NIS as well as representatives of the Inspector-General of Police and the heads of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Prisons Service, State Security Service and the Federal Road Safety Commission as members.

Mr. Jonathan, Maku said, also directed all government agencies, apart from Army and Police, to stop carrying out such physical recruitment exercise.

Was Mr president nt aware of d #1000 bank payment for registratn..... ? Y shld govt alwaz wait for evil acts to take place b4 coming into such situation? Now dat over 20 lives hs bin wasted, d president nd his crew are now coming out to give out slots to victims. For there mind dy don do better tin! Nonsense! What wil now happen to dose heads behind dis whole dirty arrangement? They wanted to give out jobs to d poor nd unemployed masses, yet dey are asking dem to pay for it..... Isnt dat federal extortion? What r d judiciaries doin 4 us in dis country seff! D judiciary is infact a bunch of fallure! Fellow Youths nd Nigerians, its high time we fight dis fight. I dont knw abt u, bt as 4 me, my patience is axhausted. I dont even care any more abt d implication of a massive violent youth protest over d insensitivity of govt on youth unemployment. Enough is enough!

I love d bold step of mr. President in compensating d families of those dat lost their lives during NIS excercise.. In d other hand, i want to ask Mr. President about we dat sustained great injury during d excercise, what is our faith, are we not going to be compensated? Even if one slot each. I was just discharged today from d hospital since saturday and i hv spent a lot of money.. Please consider it. This is my phone No. 08063830417.. And my NIS Application No. IMM15511012175071.

Government needs to find solution to the unemployment rate by encouraging the young graduate to establise work. And with the view of nis recruitment, it shows that government can not provide employment for half of number graduate in this country. I implore the govt to help the graduated students to be self establishment.

well,am an applicant & also in d NIS recruitment in abuja center, its nt d minister fault dat it went bad bt d so called d examiner & d uniform personel who are good 4nothing,common sense would've tell dem to open all d access gate..& since we're told to b there b4 7am,d so called officers suspose 2b @ those gate b4 4am to check d venue 4 security reasons den get to d post (gate) & check d applicant in as soon as they get to d venue & some of d officers should have position in d venue to direct d applicant to take seat accordding categories & qualification.bt dis wasn't d case b they left us outside untill we gather up to 60000,only 4 dem to open just one gate.while there are more dan 29 gates,...again please STOP D DISCRIMINATION B/W HND & Bsc is unfair!!

Mr president, the yoouth have really suffered enough in this country, i dont think think theres need to cancel the NIS examination exercise for no reason.. you have decided to compensate the dead ones and injured ones which i am one of the injured. The candidates really suffered before we could write the exam so i urge you to favor us by considering the NIS examination positively. We are all in need and suffering. May God help us all
