Etisalat Nigeria Sacks Over 2000 Staff Nationwide

Posted on Wed 02nd Apr, 2014 - hotnigerianjobs.com --- (25 comments)

Telecommunications company, Etisalat Nigeria on Friday sacked over two thousand permanent staff across the country. The sacked workers were paid off our source say.

The Telecom operator seeks to hire adhoc staff to run the operations of the company as the company is said to be broke and can no longer retain the permanent work force.

Most of those sacked have expressed surprise and disappointment over the development which has thrown them into the already saturated unemployment market.

“We were asked to leave and our cheques handed to us yesterday, it is unfortunate that I am again back to the Job market” a source who does not want to be mentioned revealed.

“They want to recruit contract staff/new agents and they can no longer run the cost of paying those of us that are permanent staff, they claim.”

Another source went on to say the management of the company is insisting on hiring contract staff to replace those sacked but “it is unfortunate they had to send us home the way they did”

She continued, “Do we even have labour laws in this country? How can you wake over night and ask people to go without months of notice, at least for us to be prepared for the worst”
Some of the reasons by the management for the sack is that the company can no longer manage the wage bill and the company is going through financial crisis and can’t afford to keep permanent staff, hence the need for the sack.

In Lagos alone, over 1,200 were sacked while more than 800 were asked to go home in states like kano.
The company has also terminated their graduate trainee program for all fresh graduates. The Company sent out emails that the program has ended without prior notice.

Some members of the graduate trainee had spent years with the company only to receive mails about their sack at the close of business.

You know hotjobs, we do not have investigative press-men in Nigeria. Our press is to see what happen now and tell world this happened and that is all. After then, they don't care to know. The youth of this country do not have difence and is why any body have his can do to them what ever they like. I mean if government organisation such as immigration did what they did and nothing happened, why not Etisalat.
Nigerian youth today have been turned to project that the rich can make money out of and at the say graduate of today are unemployable.
Look!, let me tell you hotjobs of you not care to investigate this news further.
What Etisalat is doing is not their fault. Is thesame Nigerians that have money that will go and meet this companies and tell them that they are cost effective analyst and that they can help them to reduce cost. Like so called consultant companies. The same people immigration claimed they used.
Hotjobs, after then, they will submit their papers that they could manage the staff for them at lower cost. That the company should just pay them and the will employ staff that not bear Etisalat name and etisalat do not have any staff and no running cost directly to etisalat; they will paying "their staff"-consultancy staff and not Etisalat staff.
Is a pity for what the youths of this country are going through.
If the leaders of this country cares, they should listen to they song of Asa - Their is fire on the mountain and no one seem to be on the run, one day the river will overflow and they would which they have put out the fire. Another Peter tosh- Every one is crying out for peace and no one is crying out for justice. Just watch.

But atleast, they have been paid off. They should use what they have been paid to invest in businesses of their choice. Some of them despite been paid off are complaining bcos they are not innovative. They prefer working under someone for d rest of their lives. That is unfortunate. The company had made their position clear dat they cant no long meet up with d overhead cost. Pls, u guys go home and think of alternative, while younger people who they want to hire as adhoc staffs should come in. Goodluck to u all and God bless u, d etisalat and nigeria as a whole. Thank u

I have a friend who was sacked by Etisalat in Lagos last week and the pay off was a cheque of N104,000. What type of pay off was that? what can anyone do with that amount of money? It is unfortunate that this is happening and it us because we no government to protect the right of her citizens. The act is shameful

Etisalat hasn't done any wrong as far as am concerned. If few highly placed individuals could exploit the entire youth of the country in the name of employment into immigration and nothing is done about it then why are we complaining? Is the presidency not a beneficiary of such exploitation? No problem, they should continue. Only that Nigerian youths are cowards, I am ernestly praying and ready for the day Nigeria will experience an uprising. Egypt was not as worse and corrupt as our leaders but their youth rose up, where are their corrupt leaders today? The end shall justify the means.
