Job Title: Senior Associate, Head Commercial

Job Description:
Our Senior Associate, Head Commercial, oversees all commercial instructions that come into the firm; receiving instructions assigning the work; supervising juniors and reporting to partner on progress as regards legal, regulatory and compliance issues. Provide high level legal and policy advice on matters arising with to clients.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
High level legal Advice
Lead the provision of high level legal advice and analysis in various areas of commercial legal practice.
Identify and monitor emerging legal developments and key concerns relating to various areas of legal services.
Conduct and oversee significant research into legal issues in various areas of legal services.
Write, edit, and finalise reports, opinions, correspondence, articles, and other documents.
Keep abreast of changes in laws that affect client areas
Supervision
Cross check and ensure accuracy and sufficiency of legal advice etc prepared by junior counsel prior to delivery to clients
Monitor work flow of junior counsel
Monitor on time delivery of legal services
Conduct or ensuring training of newly hired employees
Be able to step into leadership roles and assume responsibility as the need arises
Business Development
Growing the existing business with regard to volume, scope , quality and value of mandates
In coordination with Partners, take the lead in responding to RFPs
Attending networking events, seminars etc
Making client visits and promoting ALP’s business
Coordinating Marketing Research and Training activities in line with the firms business development strategies and goals
Business Management
Supervising and monitoring issuance of invoices, payment of invoicing.
Approving and monitoring expenses to be incurred by Junior counsel
Policy development and implementation
Develop procedures and policy manuals from time to time
Monitor compliance with policies and procedures. Ensure consistent application of policy across the organization, including by contributing to quality control functions.
Ensure maintenance of ALP’s policy database.
Other duties
Contributing to development of the organisation’s strategic and operational plans;
Drafting and/or editing relevant materials for publication; and
Undertaking any other duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Partners

Education:
Second Class Upper Degree in Law (LLB) ( a foreign degree will be an added advantage)
Bachelor of Law from the Nigerian Law School
Experience Required:
8 years post call experience of commercial practice
Substantial expertise in contracts, including good commercial understanding.
Track record of providing effective legal and commercial advice and support, including proven ability to successfully draft and negotiate contracts.
Proven ability to advise on a diverse range of legal issues, including, real estate, employment law, commercial law, foreign investment, tax, intellectual property law
Eagerness to learn and the ability to tackle new areas of law with confidence.
Proven ability to give strategic legal advice, taking into account a broad range of legal issues.
Ability to advise on and effectively plan and manage the provision of legal advice to major transactions, activities and projects, including managing legal teams and liaising with client’s legal departments.
Ability to use legal knowledge and skills to solve problems, identify pragmatic solutions, proactively manage risks and spot opportunities to further the aims of the firm.
Excellent legal drafting skills and good attention to detail, including when operating under pressure
