News: NSE, Samsung to Train Indigenous Engineers

The Nigerian Society of Engineers has entered into a partnership with Samsung Electronics to train 80 members of the society.

The President, NSE, Mr. Isaac Olorunfemi, made the announcement in Abuja during the signing of the agreement by officials of the society and the management team of Samsung Electronics West Africa.

He said, “Part of our responsibility is to ensure that we enter into partnerships with other organisations that can assist us in fulfilling our mandates, among which is professional development, capacity building and, of course, entrenching local content.

“Samsung is a worldwide company and part of the takeaway from this partnership is that at least 80 of our members, mostly young engineers, will have the opportunity to do internship and training with Samsung.”

Olorunfemi stated that the first phase of the partnership would last for one year and the training would help create more jobs in the country.

He said, “What that means is that in one year, we are creating 80 jobs that are direct; and if you look at the multiplier effect, you will agree that a lot more jobs will be created. This will also make the maintenance of most of the Samsung products feasible in Nigeria; and mind you, as we go along, the company is going to increase the number of our members to be trained.

“We will also ensure that there is sharing of experience between Samsung and the Nigerian Society of Engineers. So, for us, this partnership is of great potential and it is going to be for one year for a start.”

The Managing Director, Samsung Electronics West Africa, Mr. Brovo Kim, said the firm was pleased to work with the society, adding that the first 80 engineers to be trained by the firm would also contribute to the growth of the Nigerian economy.

“Samsung is a brand name in Nigeria and this is part of our corporate social responsibility as a company. There are a lot of young and brilliant engineers coming out of this country from the NSE, and we think that this cooperation is an opportunity to build the careers of these engineers who will in turn contribute to the economy of this country,” he noted.
