The Governing Council of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria hereby announces that the position of Vice Chancellor of the University will soon be vacant and so invites interested and qualified individuals to submit applications as per below:

The Job
The Vice Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University, ex-officio Chairman of the Senate and Member of the Governing Council. Among his/her other functions, the Vice Chancellor shall:

• Be competent at all times to advise the Council on any matter affecting the policy, finance, and administration of the University;
• Be generally responsible to the Council for maintaining the efficiency and good order of the University, and ensuring the proper enforcement of the Laws, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations of the University;
• Be responsible for discipline in the University; (iv) regulate the admission of students subject to the guidelines and procedures approved by the University Senate and other statutory bodies.

In keeping with the provisions of paragraphs 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Decree of 1993, the Council has directed that applications be invited from distinguished academics with experience in university teaching and administration of not less than fifteen (15) years.

Qualities and Qualifications
Applicants for the post of Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University must possess the following qualities and qualifications i.e.

• Be University teachers of the rank of Professor attained in an institution of high reputation;
• Be persons of very high academic standing and reputation in their respective discipline;
• Possess a keen understanding of the academic and other missions of Universities, their developmental and managerial needs as well as the role of these institutions in overall national development;
• Have extensive and deep experience in all facets of University administration or at similar institution of higher learning;
• Be persons who would command respect nationally and internationally, but especially in the academic sphere;
• Be individuals who, judging from their track record, are likely to command the willing respect as well as loyalty of members of staff and students of the University;
• Be morally sound and of unimpeachable probity and integrity;
• Be persons who enjoy excellent physical and mental health.

Conditions of Service
The remuneration and conditions of service are as applicable to posts of Vice Chancellor in all Nigerian Federal Universities, and as determined by the Government from time to time.
