Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi was established in 1995. Before the take off of the Centre, the facility, then referred to as General Hospital Makurdi, had existed for over 70 years. Indeed the hospital was started as a small Clinic in the early thirties by the Colonial masters to render first aid services to labourers who worked on the construction of the rail bridge across the Benue River.

The Federal Medical Centre is one of the Federal Tertiary Hospitals in the country. It is a 600 bedded tertiary hospital located in Benue State in the North-Central geo-political zone of Nigeria.

Position

• The Medical Director is the Head/Chief Executive of the Institution.
• He is accountable to the Board of Management under the supervision of the Honourable Minister of Health.
• Applicants are to note that this is a full time job.

Job Description

• The Medical Director is the Chief Executive of the Institution and he/she is charged with the responsibility of running of the centre.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants for this post should:

• Be Medically qualified and registered as such by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCAN) for a period of not less than twelve (12) years.
• Possess a Postgraduate Fellowship of National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or of the West African College of Surgeons/Physicians or their equivalent.
• Must be a Consultant for at least five (5) years.
• Be of proven good character and integrity.
• Have been gainfully employed at the time of application.
• Have knowledge of computer/ICT.
• Experience in health administration and management at the tertiary level is an added
• advantage.

Conditions of Service

• The conditions of service are as defined for the Chief Executive of Federal Agencies as contained in relevant rules and circulars

Tenure of Office

• The appointment is for a term of four (4) years in the first instance and may be renewed, subject to satisfactory performance and at the discretion of Mr President for another term of four (4) years.
