University Librarian at the Federal University Lokoja

The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) - Kogi State is one of the nine newly established Federal Universities in Nigeria. The University was established in February 2011 and it commenced academic activities in the 2012/2013 session. FUL is located in Lokoja, Kogi State, Central Nigeria, about 160 kilometres from Abuja, the nation's capital. It is a conventional University that intends to excel in its academic and research activities to compete with other universities worldwide.

Job Description

• The University Librarian shall be responsible to the Vice Chancellor for the overall administration of the University Library, its branches and extension and for providing library services for the entire University community.
• The University Librarian is a principal officer and is the head of the University Library. The candidate for the post shall be visionary and have the ability to provide good leadership.
• He/she must possess personal integrity and demonstrate transparency in private and public life; as well as being able to command the respected and loyalty of staff of the University.

Qualification and Experience
Candidate for this post shall:

• Be professionally qualified and be a practicing Librarian;
• Possess a good honours degree and a Ph.D in Library and Information Science from a recognized University, with at least twenty (20) years relevant experience, preferably in a University or other institutions of higher learning;
• Have contributed to knowledge through research and publications in administrative leadership;
• Be registered member of the Library Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN);
• Be computer literate and proficient in relevant computer applications.

Conditions of Service
The conditions of service of the position of the University Librarian are as obtainable in Federal Universities in Nigeria. Salary and allowances are as applicable to principal officers in Federal Universities.
The tenure of the office of the University Librarian is a non-renewable single-term of five (5) years.
