Job Description

• Desired candidate attributes include a thorough understanding of DCS Process Control and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). The successful candidate will provide support for Experion process automation systems, and on Triconex safety shutdown systems.

Tasks

• Develop control strategies and the supporting documentation to meet design specifications. Conduct PA project design reviews with the business clients.
• Safety system code development to meet process control and safety system specifications.
• Provide Safety System commissioning and check-out support.
• Configure process control software and HMI (Human Machine Interface) graphics to meet process control specifications.
• Perform software simulation of process control and HMI applications software. Write test procedures.
• Provide documentation of operational details (example: shutdown conditions and specific operator follow-up actions to be taken).
• Work with the project team to provide facility startup coverage.
• Coordinate project work with instrument discipline and perform internal communication and cross-checks to assure project package quality.
• Carry out work assignments with little supervision.
• Provide training for the operations personnel.
• Mentor and coach new engineers as needs and opportunities arise.

Desired Skills and Experience

• B.Sc. Chemical Engineering preferred, 4-year degree recommended, but degree not required.
• Minimum of 5-years experience in the application and programming of process control systems and chemical manufacturing facility design and/or operation.
• Knowledge and implementation experience in SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems) is required. Prior experience configuring Triconex systems is preferred.
• Knowledge and/or experience in control system applications software programming, troubleshooting, and startup in chemical manufacturing facilities. Prior experience configuring Honeywell TDC 3000 and/or Experion DCS systems is preferred.
• Experience in design and implementation of the following process control principles: Analog control (PID, cascade, and constraint controllers), State Based Control or Steady State Continuous Control, Alarms and Interlock, Digital logic applications.
• Control Systems strategy design, and developing user requirements, functional requirements, and detailed design specifications or the company’s Process Control Strategy Documentation
• Proficient in standard computer tools: Microsoft® Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
• Experience in small projects implementing process control and process safety solutions to operate the process equipment on the plant floor.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with the Honeywell TDC and Experion systems. Ability to configure DCS points including logic blocks and program using Honeywell AM and HPM Control Language (CL).
• Building and updating Honeywell Native Window graphics. Experience with GUS and/or Experion graphics configuration would be a plus.
• Good knowledge of the Triconex MSW (Relay ladder logic) and/or TS1131 (Function block) programming, testing and loading requirements.
• Candidates with strong DCS application and programming experience using other DCS control systems (ex. Emerson Delta V, ABB 800xA, ABB Mod300, etc.) will be considered.
