The
Kwara State Government, in its efforts to increase and diversify its revenue base for financial freedom and bolstered efficacy in governance, recently passed the Kwara State Revenue Administration Law, 2015 (Law No.6 of 2015).
Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KS-IRS), as established by this Law, is the sole entity responsible for the effective and efficient administration of tax and related matters on behalf of the Kwara State Government.
The
KS-IRS Mandate:
- To maintain the integrity of the tax laws and processes by eliminating all instances of multiple taxation;
- To assist the State Government to attain specific economic and social policies, systems and targets; and
- To stimulate voluntary compliance so as to advance maximum representation of the populace in executive decision making.
In keeping with the mandate for the KS-IRS, the kwara State Government is seeking individual with uncommon dedication who are high-achieving, highly dynamic and innovative with proven target driven orientation to fill the underlisted position in the newly established KS-IRS:
Job Title: Director of Tax Audit

Job Description
- Director of Tax Audit is directly responsible for verifying the accuracy of tax records and other remittances by individuals, businesses, MDAs and other parties that have a duty to do so.
- In so doing, the Director of is expected to ensure that methodologies that the current context in Kwara State will be developed and deployed in accordance with all Federal and State tax laws.
- Furthermore, it is the incumbent’s responsibility to develop processes and automated systems that will ensure that each audit is cost effective, and achieves the desired result.
Specific Tasks
Specific tasks are divided into the following categories and include:
- Routinely demand and review financial documents, including budget planning, spending records, receipts, investment records and revenue projections of state-supported business and government entities to ensure above-board activities;
- Conduct investigations into key corporate entities and individuals to determine taxes payable and/or owed, and decide the need for a full fledged audit, and the mutually beneficial solutions to rectify any issues that may be identified;
- Lead the examination MDAs (Ministries, Departments, and Agencies) and Parastatals of the KWSG to verify sources and uses of expenditure, and match it with reports sent;
- Lead the development of automated processes and forms that will aid the procedural efficacy and revenue efficiency of the KS-IRS;
- Recommends and assists in the implementation of new technology to improve and sustain the operations' effectiveness and efficiency in collecting and processing payment and tracking various permits and licenses for compliance;
Education
- MA/MBA/MSc combining Accounting, Tax & Audit fields;
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation; and
- Fellowship with national and/or international accounting institutions.
Professional Experience:
- 15 years
- 8 - 10 years of this experience must have been in an executive, managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity. Supervision must have included supervising staff performing professional work in the areas described above.
- Extensive working knowledge of federal and state Tax Laws, Criminal Laws and other relevant legislation.
- Extensive experience in leading the preparation and investigation of individual, partnership, sales, payroll, corporate, estate, and property taxes, taxes and returns.
- Proof of handling and negotiating the course of action to remedy issues determined as a result of audit including and helping preparing for court cases.
Required Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft systems, e.g., Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Strong project management, time management and organizational skills required. The ability to manage multiple priorities, take initiative, delegate responsibility, prioritize and ensure the delivery of on-time deliverables is key.
- Clear understanding of both motivations and requirements of key players that will impact KS-IRS.
- Fluency in written and spoken English required, Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills
- High level of digital literacy and familiarity with database management systems
- Proven ability to work under pressure, ensure coherence and consistency, independently, and meet deadlines consistently;
- Sound knowledge of Government policy and practice impact on financial and contractual arrangements
- Stakeholder and cross-functional team management
