Our client is a global dredging company with extensive expertise in port construction, flood defence work, project management and maritime terminal services.
Has a good knowledge of the general principles of accounting standards (ledger accounts, analytical accounting, etc.) and applies this knowledge correctly and independently to the companies falling within his remit
Organizes and coordinates the smooth functioning of the accounts required by the articles of association and the analytical accounts of one or more entities (the management and application of standard accounting systems, training and supervising associates if necessary, etc.). The above always takes place in the context of the requirements of the law and in consultation with his/her direct supervisor
Is able to read the balance sheet items of a financial report and to understand and interpret them. Makes an extensive analysis of balance sheet accounts (fixed assets, accounts payable, current accounts, etc.)
Establishes a satisfactory follow-up method for the analytical coding in his/her entities
Has a good knowledge and view of all existing accounts. In other words knows where what should be booked
Is responsible for the integration of the pay reports into the accounts and in doing so, taking into account national (shipping reduction, etc.) and international arrangements
Is responsible for the delivery of information for internal financial audits and external audits as well as in assisting with supplying all data for internal audits
Prepares overviews and analyses regarding sub-contractors, lease contracts, charter parties, etc
Prepares the financial reports required by the articles of association and the analytical quarterly reports for his/her immediate supervisor and/or the company’s consolidation department
Keeps an eye on deadlines and if necessary sends reminders. Does this both internally (subsidiaries, departments) and externally (sub-contractors, customers, etc.)
Checks that suppliers and sub-contractors are compliant with the requirements of social security and tax law. Informs the party concerned and his/her direct supervisor if this not the case
Makes a monthly check of the VAT/social security status of the entities which fall within his remit as well as of suppliers and customers
Has a good knowledge of both the national and international VAT legislation and can in this respect bring about optimization in consultation with Tax Department (e.g. what VAT may be deducted, etc.)
Attend to the VAT returns and administration without assistance
Makes proposals for the optimization of VAT and other tax to his/her direct supervisor and/or Tax Department
Monitors recent national and international developments in the law and is able to implement these in his own field of activity. Works in and collects information about national and international tax law in consultation with Tax Department
Makes quarterly updates of the financial reports required by the articles of association and the analytical accounts for the entities falling within his remit, and reports on this to his/her direct supervisor.
Retains relevant reports about the project inventory management (W&T, consumables, etc.) if employed on a site
Retains relevant reports and overviews (insurance, payroll administrations, bonds and guarantees, invoicing and payment plan, etc.)
Prepares a liquidity plan at regular intervals for the entities in his/her remit
Actively monitors the currency and fuel hedging in his/her entities
Makes up a local tax plan covering several years for his/her entities
Attends to the reporting (overview of claims, payments, interest calculations, etc.) for Joint Ventures
Ensures that the filing system and archive is up to date
Responsible for the external reporting to various government agencies (e.g keeping statistics, reporting information needed for certain permits, etc.)
Responsible for compiling and filing the annual accounts of the entities
Helps with external audits, transfer cost audits, and all other tax audits, including VAT inspections
Requirements
First degree in Accounting from a reputable university
At least five years experience in an international company as accountant, preferably in marine works industry
Operational knowledge of Tax Regulations & Law in Nigeria
