The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable candidates for the below position at the Institute’s Headquarters in Ibadan.

Job Title: Research Supervisor - YIIFSWA (2-year renewable contract)

Location: Ibadan

Duties
Successful candidate will:

• Supervise technicians and daily workers to carry out seed yam production/multiplication using available (minisetts, micro tubers, vines cutting etc.) or novel techniques such aeroponic, hydroponic etc;
• Supervise activities in screen houses and field on station and out stations for establishment of new techniques of high rate of seed yam multiplication;
• Supervise and provide on-the-job training to technicians and daily workers for acclimatization of vitro plantlets;
• Collect data (on station, sub-station and on farm), and keep records on seed yam production/multiplication trials, and also supervise other staff involved in these activities;
• Contribute to the capacity building through development of training modules on high rate seed yam propagation techniques for yam research technicians, Agriculture Extension Agents (AEA);
• Supervise the delivery of seed yam multiplication, training of trainers courses using different techniques;
• Supervise the daily management of technicians and workers both on station at Ibadan and in out- stations;
• Assist collaborators public and private, students and visiting scientists to achieve respective objectives within YIIFSWA project;
• Contribute to project reporting system and particularly reporting on research findings.

Qualification and Experience

• BSc/HND General Agriculture plus at least 5 years relevant working experience in yam breeding and seeds propagation methods.
• Experience in seed Yam propagation in a research Institution will be an added advantage.
• Applicants must have high integrity, be honest and possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
• He/she must also be able to work under pressure and on weekends when necessary.
