M. Sc. Petroleum Geosciences Admission into University of Port Harcourt Choba

The M. Sc. Geoscience Programme is an excellence driven Oil and Gas sector support graduate programme run under the Institute of Petroleum Studies (IFS) of the University of Port Harcourt

Introduction

• The Centre for Petroleum Geosciences (CPG) was established in 2011 to cater for the geoscienees skills and needs of the Petroleum Sector in Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea
• The Centre is part of IPS which runs a collaboration graduate school between Ecole du Petrole et des Moteurs (IFP School), Paris, France and the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT)
• CPG offers a conducive academic setting in a bold effort to encourage purposeful learning and research, which also includes field and operational facility visits.
• The programme, as designed encourages students  team spirit and leadership skills by living together and working in teams
• UNIPORTs effort at developing the Centre is driven by the critical national and regional need to further grow the IPS Professional Masters Degree Programme to provide graduates with requisite competence and adequate skills that can deliver tile geoscience support needs of the Petroleum Industry
• The academic programme is delivered in modules, Jointly by lecturers from the University of Port Harcourt and related academic settings, and also by experts from the Petroleum industry both within and outside Nigeria

On completion of this Professional Masters Degree Programme, the graduates will among other skills, be able to:

• Provide adequate geosciences inputs in the evaluation and management of Oil and Gas
• Adapt effectively to use of modern techniques in operation development and production geosciences
• Understand and know the stateof4he art techniques in geosciences data acquisition, processing and interpretation
• Professionally coordinate and supervise well data gathering and interpretation
• Participate skillfully and effectively interface in various Oil and Gas Field Review Programmes anti Fiel Development Teams

Duration

• The duration of the programme shall be 12 calendar months of intensive full time study

Award of Degree

• Successful students at the end of the programme shall receive a Masters Degree in Petroleum Geoscience

Professional Certificate

• Students who wish shall be prepared and presented for certification as Associate Environmental Professional (ASP) by the National Registry of Environmental Profesionals (NREP), USA and the Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals (NISP)

Admission Requirements

• Candidates must possess a minimum of Bachelors Degree Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in Geoscience or Petroleum and Gas Engineering, and should have completed their NYSC by January ,
• 2013 Consideration for admission maybe given to sponsored Company staff with a minimum of three(3) years relevant experience with Second Class Honours (Lower Division) Degree, but with a CGPA of at least 3.0(on a 5.0 scale)

• A non-refundable application fee of twenty thousand naira (N20,000) in Certified Bank Draft made payableto the Center for petroleum Geosciences - UNIPORT.
• Applicants should either include a pre-paid Fed Ex envelop with the draft or collect the Form in person Forms can also be obtained on-Line from IPS Website and submitted with the Bank Draft
• Completed Application Form must be returned to the Director, Centre for Petroleum Geosciences, Institute of Petroleum Studies, University of Port Harcourt,

Scholarship : Candidates are expected to seek sponsorships from employers, corporate bodies, PTDF and other sponsoring agencies. However, a finite number of scholarships will be offered to outstanding female students by the Mac-Arthur Foundation.
