Job Title: Internal Controller

Location: Lagos

Position / Reports to: Executive Vice Chairman / Head, Internal control and audit

Role summary:
To set up the Internal Control function, recruit appropriate staff, supervise, and give on the job training to them and to ensure that the necessary controls, Policies and Procedures to safeguard the Assets of the company nation-wide are in place and are complied with and to report on cases of non-compliance.

Main Responsibilities:

• Sets up the Internal Control Function
• Plans the work to be executed by the Internal Control Department and gets the approval of the Executive Vice President.
• Recruits, administers and gives on the job training to Internal Control Department staff members.
• Provides guidance and leadership to the all the staff working in the Internal Control department
• Carries out a general review of the existing company’s policies and procedures and identify possible areas of gaps that require improvements.
• Ensures necessary controls are in place for all key aspects of the company’s operations such as Depot Inventory Management, Sales, Finance, Procurement, Safety / Environment and Shipping among others.
• Makes recommendations to breach the identified gaps in the Policies and Procedures so as to strengthen the Internal Control mechanisms.
• Manages the entire Internal Control system and ensure that Controls are effective, adequate and reliable.
• Provides assurance that the control mechanisms within the processes and procedures are strong enough to prevent loss of assets.
• Ensures that internal control mechanisms embedded in the Policies and Procedures are complied with and where they are not complied with, report on cases of non-compliance.
• Drives the Management and development of Control documentation to ensure essential controls evolve with the changes in the business environment.
• Ensures proper segregation of duties is in place in all the key aspects of the company’s operations.
• Reviews the key incidents reporting process and address specific control issues and subsequent improvements in response to incidents.
• Ensures Finance / Operation Teams follow and comply with necessary Tax rules and regulations.
• Participates in new software / processes implementation to ensure that processes are cost effective and tightly controlled.
• Develops an Internal Control Manual that will capture the essential Controls in the key areas of the company’s operations.

Profile

• In respect of the ideal candidate profile:
• Sound knowledge of essential controls in the area of Finance
• Sales, Depot Inventory Management
• Safety / Environment and Shipping will be essential.

Educational Background

• BSc Accounting
• minimum of second class upper
• Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria – ACA or ACCA Candidates should have a minimum of ten years working experience
• some of which should be in Finance and Controlling Functions in an Oil & Gas Marketing company
