Police disqualify SSCE, Third Class holders from Police Recruitment

Posted on Tue 18th Dec, 2012 - hotnigerianjobs.com --- (110 comments)

The Nigeria Police Service Commission says holders of Secondary School Certificate would no longer be accepted into the Nigeria Police Force as constables.

It said the minimum entry requirement now was Ordinary National Diploma.

The commission also stated that Third Class degree holders were no longer accepted as Cadet Inspectors, in line with the reform in the force.

REQUIRMENTS FOR NIGERIAN POLICE RECRUITMENT

PSC Commissioner and Chairman, Public Affairs Committee of the commission, Ms. Comfort Obi, who stated this at a news conference in Abuja on Monday, explained that the commission had reviewed the recruitment process into the police.

According to her, the PSC has over the years formulated policies aimed at the efficiency and discipline of the police force, adding that background checks are now carried out on applicants to separate bad eggs and discourage people of shady characters from joining the police.

Obi stated that polygraph tests were also carried out on applicants to determine drug users, alcoholics and liars that could tarnish the image of the force.

She said, "The mechanism put in place by the commission is in line with police regulations to ensure that bad eggs don’t find their way into the force. We are focusing on the recruitment process and have raised the minimum entry requirements.

"SSCE holders can no longer join the police as constables; even a third class degree holder cannot join the Cadet Inspector cadre. The minimum qualification for a constable is OND and it must include six credit passes in SSCE including Credit pass in English and Mathematics."

The PSC Commissioner in charge of Strategy, Dr. Otive Igbuzor, explained that written examinations had been introduced for applicants, adding that promotions in the force were based on merit.

He explained that 599 cases of indiscipline were treated between 2008 and 2011. He said 94 officers were compulsorily retired, and a number of others were sanctioned for various offences.

Is SSCE Or A Third class holder the problem of the Police Or is first class or an OND the reputable characters that the Nigeria Police desire to reform? What has Nigeria Police so far contribute to the Nigeria Education or is education the skill, technique, honest, fairness, common sense, loyalty, even the burning desire to serve, the Nigeria police need to be effective? People who make this suggestion should not be allow to serve this great future country any more bcos they lack the potential to reason and are baseless idealist and, that is why the Nigeria police is an evidence of progress but no progress is encouraging. Certificate is not your problem.

All camouflage as far as Nigeria is concerned. We all know that getting employment in any organization, especially government owned organization is based on who you know and not what u know.

Any way, my belive is that qualification is the begining. It will improve communication and understanding. Maybe those ones will be able to reason when you talk to them.

The next is to completely overhaul and purge the system from IG down to trafic warders.

I want to use this opportunity to thank the Nigerian Police force for thier effort because its not easy to handle nigerian citizen, likewise other countries too. As for couruption its those people in the office should see to that. Pls as i want seek employment from the police force i am a computer science higher national diploma(HND) graduate and am in Abuja looking for job. If i may surgest, i think one shortcut to success in fighting crime is by recruting computer science graduate. Believe me it will help to reduce crime.

This is simple,SSCE & 3 class is twenty naira. So they want an increase from twenty naira to hundred naira per motorist. Nice reform Mad people. Sometimes i wonder the kind of leaders we have in this country,Sanusi will wake up and advocate for #5000 note and sack of workers,Goodluck will say happy new year with fuel subsidy removal,Okonjo will wake up and say that some people are collecting subsidy without importing anything then i ask,'who is paying them without verifying first? And in all this we Nigerians kept quite watching this fools over run our intelligence, this things cannot happen in Asia,Arab,Europe etc without the masses protesting. You that is reading this ask yourself how many best doctors, lawyers, engineers we have in this country came out of the house of our senators, governors, presidents etc. What are they doing with the money their fathers stole from us,of course we know, party in london, paris, new york etc. Let me stop here next time. For all those who are yet to get a job,my organisation is waiting for you to register with us and we will help you get a job,not only a job but you will automatically become a memeber of Good Governance in Nigeria. You can call our Head office in Lagos 07061062347 or E-mail [email protected] You can come to Mortez Technology at 55 Lagos Abeokuta Express way Alagbado Lagos.

third class or ssce is not a problem with regards to employment, afterall those that pass out iwth good the require grade either bribe their way out or were favoured by the examiner or who ever is responsible for the compilation of result. go back to history great men and heroes of today mostly fall within this categories, Mendel the founder of theory of Inheritance was a school dropout, Wole Soyinka an Authority in Literature in the world was a a Third class candidat, so what are you insinuatin Police Force? please rethink again and dont be a total failure.

Nigerian, will need to upgrade Because Education+Force-Talent=Nothing. In 1996 nobody want to be a Policeman talkless Graduate because the salary was too low. It was only SSCE holder recuilt But now SSCE holder+force+talent=No future. You want to increase crime. And this idea is not good enough. But your wish is our command Sionn

Who is Nigeria police to discriminate result? What is more important in the history of education than SSCE which is the foundation of education or Third class holder who face the realities as far as degrees is concerned. I don't think the people who suggest this are genuinely educated and if not because of the weakness of the government that is base upon an adopted constitution that metamorphosed the country into an illegal nation that causes every activities, culture, tradition and dignity of the country to be doubted by the people of the nation and the world at large, the Niger police will not come up with such useless and without focus imagination. I could not imagine any relationship between Niger police and good grade score. They should go for doctor and professor, since this now become their training. Foolish and wicked people

Can someone tell me why NPF need Graduates with good qualification?
Permit me to say these. with due respect sir.

Nigeria Police Force dont need graduates before they function effectively. Your ineffectiveness has nothing to do with SSCE OR 1ST class holders. It is all about integrity, faithfullness, sincerity, hunbleness, truth, orderness, committment, etc.
Here in Nigeria Police will enforce law and be the first to fail it. Police will advice citizens not to drive cars on Padestrans path, they will be the one to fail it with the white monkeys they are proteching. is these all about qualification?
must you have qualification before you diffrenciate bad from good?
Must you have first degree before you obey the law you enforced?
Must you have Upper credit before you know you must protect innocent citizens without harassing them?
Must you have 2nd degree before you know collecting bribe is wrong?
Must you have Destintion before you serve your father with all your hearth?
However, must of our forces need people to rightly adviced them. i wish i can talk to IG of Police. I have thousands of advice for him. Given good and professional advice is not about your educational qualification, but God gift.

All is well said and done. i must applaud guys like muhammad, Acadella, comrade promise, etc for their good comments and suggestions.
The NPF is an epitome of disgrace to this nation. Third class degree is a genuine qualification which the bearer sweated for without buying his or her way thru lecturers and examiners.
Over 70percent of nigerian graduates with 2nd class lower and upper bought their ways thru by bribing or sleeping with lecturers or bribing examiners to buy exam questions, etc.
so,what do you expect these buy-way graduates to do in labour market than to steal from their organizations or government.
The IG should get this clear that high or lower grades have noting to do with police reforms.
The Nigerian Police should be given outstanding training and re-training locally and internationally.

Those who don't even have any certificate at all will give them sum of N300,000 and above they will engage him or her. Our educational system is so bad that whatever grade you obtained can never determine the level of your intelligent quotients. Employers of labours should fathom out a better way of getting competent staff than looking at the grade obtained from the school. Except somebody who is not familiar with our educational system that will form an opinion based on the grade.Nigerian police problem is not on competency of the personnels, but lack of integrity in the police force.

So for our dearling NPF grade of certificate is not your problem, if you dont know how to screen ever increasing unemployed youth, find another means statistic have shown that people with lower grades or low level of education are more inteligent in terms of field work, more prudent, and mostly reliable.

If the so called PSC has bcom useless and nonsense to our country,Federeal gov't should eliminate it immidiately for good governance. The plan is making mockery on the poor who can not afford to further after SSCE, and telling the whole world that police are brain drain, foolish and need another department for training (15-18 months of nonsense) .PSC should be querried why Nigerian Army,Airforce,Navy,Civil Defence, customs and all other Departments recieve praises both National and international.
