The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, has sacked a principal technical officer, in the academy over his involvement in an admission scam in the just concluded 63 Regular intake.
The culprit, Mallam Rilwanu Sanusi, according to the academy, collected N1 million from one Mrs. Farida Shuaibu, allegedly on behalf of the immediate past registrar of the academy to assist her in securing admission for two of her wards.

Addressing the press yesterday at the NDA Headquarters, the Registrar of the institution, Colonel Henry Ayamasaowei, through the academy’s Public Relations Officer, Lt. Col. Nwachukwu Onyema said “members of the public are to note that admission into NDA is not for sale; it is absolutely free and does not require any written note from any quarters.”

The culprit who was said to have spent over 14 years at the academy had given his victim an option of collecting a note from a prominent Nigerians or payment of the N1 million to enable him secure the admission for the wards and the victim was said to have opted to pay the said amount.

The registrar said the offender would soon be handed over to the civil police for prosecution, warning that under no circumstance should anyone part with money to get admission into the academy. His words: “This is to inform the general public that Mallam Rilwanu Sanusi, a principal technical officer in the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, was involved in an admission scam during the recently concluded exercise for 63 Regular Course intake.

“The staff fraudulently demanded and received the total sum of N1 million, from one Alhaji Shuaibu Ibrahim under the pretext of securing admission for two of his wards into NDA using the academy’s registrar’s name.“The facts of the matter were that upon release of the 63 Regular Course entrance examination results in May 2011, two wards of Alhaji Shuaibu Ibrahim who wrote the examination were not successful. Thereafter, Alhaji Shauibu’s wife, Mrs. Farida Shauibu visited the academy in his office to solicit assistance for the wards.

“It was during the visit that Mallam Rilwanu met Mrs. Farida and the deal was struck. However, when the admission list for 63 Regular Course was released in July 2011 and the names of the two candidates did not appear, Alhaji Shuaibu Ibrahim promptly demanded for the refund of his money.

“Mallam Sanusi started paying back the money in agreed installments but defaulted at some point which prompted Alhaji Ibrahim to seek NDA’s intervention to recover the balance from him (Rilwanu).“In compliance with due process, this matter was thoroughly investigated by both the NDA military police and the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee. Both panels found Mallam Rilwanu Sanusi culpable of the alleged offence but cleared the academy’s registrar of complicity.”
