Job Title: Practice Accountant

Location: Lagos

Job Description

Practice Accountant needed at a law firm in Lagos.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the accounts of the law firm

Job Function

Provide financial services support to the firm, for such activities as: invoice processing, payment scheduling and processing, vendor account management, client account management, staff advance accounting and administration, funds receipt processing, payroll disbursement, etc.
Maintain the books of accounts of and general ledger of the firm by service offering
Maintain the firm’s fixed asset records/ register and ensure proper accounting for fixed assets
Co-ordinate the budget preparation, monitoring and control process, in line with agreed policies and procedures
Analyse budget performance, identify and obtain explanations for significant variances
Develop/update the management information report framework and templates, including defining the templates for data and information gathering across the firm
Compute accurately and file all Federal, State and Local tax returns to ensure the firm’s compliance with all tax laws and regulations
Monitor and track debtor position/account receivable and facilitate timely recovery of debts.
Regularly follow-up with practice Senior Associates to ensure timely and complete revenue collection.
Prepare weekly client account balances and ageing summary schedules for the attention of the Practice Manager and Senior Associates
Ensure accurate accounting and reporting of the revenue generated by the firm

Education & Competency Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required
3-5 years accounting experience required; preferably within a law firm or professional services environment
Proficient with the use of accounting softwares
Experience with MS Excel required
Excellent communication and analytical skills
