ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) is a not for profit, non-governmental entity registered with the Nigeria Corporate Affairs Commission. It commenced operations in Nigeria in 1999, while the programmatic operations commenced in January 2000 through a Country Agreement signed with the National Planning Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Women’s rights are at the core of ActionAid International programming work. This is anchored by the Women’s Right team which drives the development and delivery of the gender strategies of ActionAid.

AAN is recruiting to fill the following position:

Job Description
The Women’s Rights Manager will be the focal person for all ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) Women’s Rights work. She will work with team leads to ensure mainstreaming of women’s rights issues into AAN programme at both national and community levels. She will actively engage in fundraising activities to ensure continuity of the unit within the Country Programme.

Responsibilities
  • Reports to the Head of Programme Quality
Programme
  • Responsible for the development of gender and women rights strategies within projects in the areas of planning, programming implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all thematic programmes and organizational development in AAN, including coordinating the Gender Working Group,
  • Take a lead in the development of concepts for national and global women and gender related events and activities and facilitate partnership and collaboration with organizations that promotes women’s rights and good governance for such events.
  • Facilitate the engendering of AAN programmes by supporting the development and implementation of gender strategy, gender manual and responding to gender recommendations of all AAN programmers across themes.
  • Monitor the implementation of Gender sensitive indicators developed as a tool for addressing women’s rights issues in programmes and projects. .
  • Support Education team projects on issues of Violence against Girls(VAG) in Education and facilitation of Girls Club in schools as a safe space for girls to speak on issues of VAGS both at school and home.
  • Work with the Conflict and Emergencies Unit in generating community action plan and policy issues on women in conflict as it relates to Violence Against Women and strengthening the women role in the National Human Security Network and peace building processes at the community level.
  • Work with the governance team in promoting women’s political participation at the state and local level.
  • Take the lead and work closely with Local Rights Programme (LRP) partners in designing and implementing women rights programmes at the community level, building capacity and raising the consciousness of poor and excluded women and girls through leadership training.
  • Responsible for designing and coordinating AAN stand- alone women’s rights programmes and policy work at National, State and Community
  • Ensures that report on AAN progress of programmes/projects activities, learning, research and best practices from women’s rights perspective are documented and disseminated through media and shared among partners and other relevant stakeholders.
Policy, Advocacy and Research
  • Develop and ensure that effective strategies for building strong women movement such as Feminist Movement In Nigeria, Women Won’t Wait Campaign Coalition and women groups at the community level are strengthened to create a platform for policy influencing and laws that promote and protect women rights at all levels.
  • Support the linking of AAN’s national level policy advocacy work with community, LGA and State level issues.
  • Collaborate with relevant ministries and other agencies, alliances and networks for policy influencing on Women’s Rights issues
  • Support legislative discussions on Women’s Rights related issues.
  • Facilitate and provide technical support in capacity building for movements and women organisations
  • Provide support for community-level participatory monitoring and evaluation.
Documentation
  • Coordinate and collate monthly, quarterly and annual reports from partner organisations
  • Document and follow up on outcome of project reviews
  • Document and share learning from the project at national and international fora
  • Coordinate the storage, retrieval and review of project related information
  • Provide inputs into the writing and review of periodic reports and other information and documents especially for accountability purpose
Reporting and Accountability
  • Submit situational and any other non-routine reports as and when necessary Ensure timely implementation of and reporting on agreed activities by the networks.
  • Participate in programme meetings of AAN sharing experiences from the field, bringing up issues of general programme nature for collective decision making.
  • Facilitate the sharing of information among partners and with other stakeholders.
  • Submit success stories or case studies on lessons learnt for sharing.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for collaboration and other forms of engagement by AAN
Financial Management
  • Participate in and contribute to the development of AAN annual plans and budgets
  • Submit timely financial reports on funds released for activities in the state ensuring compliance with AAN financial reporting requirements.
  • Support partners to develop realistic budgets, linking budgets to planned and agreed activities.
  • Ensure judicious and appropriate use of programme resources given to partners, combining adherence to agreed use of resources with flexibility in use so as to respond to changes and value adding opportunities when they occur.
  • Ensure timely and accurate accountability for use of programme resources by partners in accordance with agreed format for accountability.
  • Recommend assessment of partner financial system or financial management style where evidence that these are not working
  • Actively source for and participate in fundraising activities for AAN including developing concept notes and proposals
  • Representation
  • Represent AAN in the state including attending meetings on behalf of AAN
  • Make presentations at professional meetings and conferences on matters related to the Women’s Rights issues.
  • Carry out any other responsibilities assigned by the Head of Programmes.
Internal Relationships: Governance team, AAN team.

External Relationships: Partners, Donors, CSOs and relevant government agencies.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or Arts/Humanities
  • Masters degree in a relevant field
  • At least eight years post NYSC experience
  • Four years’ experience in a similar position in the development sector preferably in women’s rights related work.
  • Experience in project management
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Ability to provide practical solutions within set deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain donor relationship and accountability in line with funding policies and standards.
  • Excellent skills to motivate and inspire a functional team will be essential
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Multi-tasking skills
  • Negotiation skills
  • Excellent planning and prioritization skills
  • A person of integrity, creative and takes initiative, able to work effectively in a diverse team environment
  • Willing to work additional hours at crucial times.
