We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Consultant Editor
Location: Within Nigeria with travel to Abuja (if required)
Job Summary
The consultant will finalize high profile materials developed by Pact West Africa. This will involve primary reading through a text and correcting typographical errors, punctuation, spelling and easily-corrected grammar mistakes as well as in-depth grammar and stylistic corrections, which may entail an entire re-writing of full sentences to obtain the best written English.
The editor will also be expected to follow up with original authors to clarify any confusing or unclear sections. Pact West Africa uses American English.
Roles and Responsibilities
The editor/proof reader is obliged to work within the required deadlines and be available to PWA for comments and corrections.
S/He will:
Restructuring texts where necessary so that the report is clear and concise.
Checking facts and ensure error-free texts, and raising any related queries.
Correcting spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.
Liaising regularly with authors by phone and email and resolving queries directly with the author, e.g. style and text inconsistencies.
Sub-editing text written by a number of authors to ensure a single consistent style for all reports.
Reviewing and correcting formats and ensure consistency and uniformity across all reports, checking manuscripts for correct design features, such as hierarchy of headings.
Creating and utilizing a style checklist to ensure consistency in hyphenation, capitalization, formatting of references, etc.
Preparing preliminary pages for the title, contents and preface of a publication.
Ensuring that publications are prepared to schedule.
Ensuring that all references and sources are accurately and consistently cited.
Ensuring confidentiality of the original texts and source materials. The edited document submitted to PWA under the given ToR is the property of PWA and cannot be submitted, distributed to or used by any other party, unless arranged otherwise.
Any other editing tasks as required to create a high-quality report.

Ensure all edited/proofread materials are approved and finalized by SAQIP team and Pact Nigeria senior management for printing.
Final report of consultancy.
Minimum Requirements
BA in Writing, Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or related fields;
Minimum of five years of relevant experience in editing, writing, proofreading, including significant experience with print publications (Required);
Outstanding writing and editing skills in English; (Required);
Experience editing and organizing photography and writing captions;
Extensive experience working closely with designers to execute layouts (required);
Knowledge and experience overseeing the creation of information graphics/data visualizations;
Fluency in written and spoken English is required;
