We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Programme Assistant, Social Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC)

Location: Dikwa, Borno
Department: International
Reports to: Programme Officer, Nutrition  
Expected travel per annum: Up to 30 days
Type of contract: Fixed Term
Contracted hours: 35
Contract length: 9 months

Role Purpose

  • The overall aim of the position is to monitor and support performance of SBCC activities.
  • She will manage and train field level SBCC staff, performing on-going monitoring and support supervision, and program planning and staff capacity building.
  • To coordinate the implementation of SBCC through IYCF key messages sensitization, and other SBCC programs/activities.

Role Context

  • To support the implementation of UN-WFP Food Aid Project by undertaking programme activities (community mobilization, awareness campaigns, IYCF sessions, verification, registration, distribution, monitoring and evaluation).
  • The role also includes planning and coordination of SBCC activities and related activities such cooking demonstrations, distributions and reporting. There is the need to have staff who is dedicated in facilitation of IYCF sessions, FGDs and other community engagements according to UN- WFP standard.

Key Outcomes

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer, Nutrition and in collaboration with other team members of the project and of the base, the Programme Assistant, SBCC will;

  • Assist the nutrition officer to manage and train the SBCC facilitators on IYCF key messages sensitization.
  • Report to the nutrition officer on weekly activities and monthly report on SBCC activities.
  • Conduct awareness campaign.
  • Assist partners in their efforts to reflect on SBCC project experiences.
  • Complete project documentation for assigned activities.  
  • Assist with identifying information for case studies and reports on promising practices.
  • May represent CAID Nigeria in humanitarian coordination meetings, taskforces, clusters and technical working groups that are related to SBCC as required of the role.
  • Work in collaboration with the Nutrition Assistant in BSFP activities.
  • Act in the absence of the Nutrition Assistant at the field level.
  • Other task(s) as required of the role.

Role Requirements

Relationships

  • External: Build  strong relationships with partners, networks, donors, stakeholders and community beneficiaries.
  • Internal: Build strong relationship with program departments, FSL/WASH Staff, MEAL officers, program managers, M&E units and all in-country and global staff.

Decision Making:

  • Make decisions to manage team effectively, from recruitment of SBCC facilitators and day to day management of IYCF related activities, including providing technical input and overall leadership to the SBCC team.
  • Day to day decision on adherence to donor guidelines in SBCC while mainstreaming gender and protection. Makes decisions around project implementation, ensuring they are prepared and comply with reporting requirements.
  • Make policy decisions that support standing and emergency issues, contribute to shaping and implementing food security intervention and making sound decisions to support this.

  • Works on complex specialist/ technical issues.  Problems and issue, risks and benefits may have implications across several departments.   
  • Required to develop new ways of doing things to better meet program goals requiring substantial creative or analytical ability.

  • Has direct responsibility for developing, coaching and motivating a team or teams of colleagues/project team members. Focus will be on advising and guiding senior management on policy issues/high level procedures and direct line management responsibility may be limited.

Person Specification

Applied Skills / Knowledge and Expertise:
Essential:

  • Degree or HND in Nutrition, Nursing and Health Education or any related qualification.
  • 1+ years of progressively responsible professional experience in Nutrition Programme development and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to network and build partnerships with governments, NGOs, CSOs and women’s groups.
  • Proven ability to conduct capacity development training and provide supportive supervision in the field of Nutrition.
  • Respect for local norms and culture.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity in FS interventions in the context of North-East Nigeria.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in Kanuri or Shuwa.
  • Experience in BSFP is an added advantage.

N 3,187,627 Salary per Annum (full time).
