Job Description
The position of the Community Relations Officer is a lead role in the Company.
The Community Relations Officer is charged with the overall responsibility of ensuring the company conducts her business in a rancour free environment by thoroughly understanding the needs of the company and effectively communicating to the host community.
Primary Responsibilities
Identifying key decision makers and influencers within the community and effectively working with them to achieve the company objective
Develop community engagement plan that comprehensively address all possible issues or existing issues that will impede smooth operations of the company
Collaborate with other stakeholders (companies, NGOs, state government agencies etc) to ensure the companies activities is properly understood and identify areas of possible collaboration in the management of the communities
Effectively identifyingpossible areas of conflict and suggest ways of managing such issues to the management based on proper understanding of the host communities
Build confidence with the host community that will enable him/her to effectively carry out assigned task
Competencies Required
The Community relation management – Hands on experience working with local host community, need assessment, environmental specialist, and ability to execute inquiries in getting needed information that can aid business health & host community relations.
Stakeholder Management Skills – Ability to mold business activities and community existence into a stakeholder status where trust and dependency exists between the business and host community
Conflict resolution skills – Responsible for anticipating potential conflict signals and identifying the root cause of disputes and using appropriate tactics to encourage or effect resolution.
Public speaking – Strong public speaking skills to present or represent the company at public and private meetings.
Marketing or Persuasive skills – Skills required to effectively share their organization’s message with a local community convincingly.
Interpersonal skills and self-confidence – a critical duty of community liaisons is building trusting and effective partnerships to facilitate engagement and outreach. To do this, they must be able to quickly relate with many differenttypes of people.
Administrative or Organization skills – Skills required to effectively organize community engagement programs and also to perform general administrative duties as assigned.
Writing skills – creating documentation and written reports to properly communicate his/her dealings with the communities
Preferred candidate must have intense and deep knowledge of social economics of rural communities.
Be vast in stakeholder management and engagement
Good understanding of working with communities within the Niger delta region preferably Edo state will be an added advantage
Qualifications/ Experience
Minimum of a Second-class Degree in Social Sciences in the field of Sociology, Political Science, Public Administration from a reputable university or any other degree with advance certificate in Sociology/Social works is preferred.
Preferred Candidate must have a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in similar capacity or roles in public contacts (extension services workers, public relations officer etc.).
