Job Title: Legal Advisor
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Job Summary
The Legal Advisor will support the Group Head Legal Services in the timely, effective and efficient implementation of legal services across the group
Responsibilities
Develop an effective filing system to ensure proper documentation, indexing, tracking and retrieval of all relevant important and confidential documents and legal paperwork;
Draft and review various legal documents including but not limited to contracts, letters, power of attorneys, affidavits and internal policies.
Conduct research and analysis of legal problems and issues.
Analyze and review legal agreements, legislation and documents for the Board.
Develop guidelines, policies, procedures.
Deal with all correspondence that requires immediate legal attention
Write reports, communicate decisions to relevant company stakeholders
Support in providing internal advisory services to the business units and departments within the Company.
Liaise with external solicitors in the provision of legal services to the organization;
Monitor the maintenance of the registers and other records required to be maintained by the Company under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA).
Ensure that all necessary statutory forms and returns are made under relevant legislations and filed as at when due with the relevant regulatory authorities;
Ensure (internal & external) compliance with laid down guidelines, policies and procedures.
Keep abreast of any regulatory or statutory changes and policies that might affect the group
Support the Group Head Legal Services in ensuring that the Group is in compliance with all statutory or legal requirements related to the operations of the business.
Implement processes and monitor the implementation of legal clauses across the group;
Ensure at all times that the company complies with legal and regulatory requirements
Provide advice to Executive Management senior on corporate governance matters
Provide all such other duties as directed by the Group Head, Legal Services
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience with at least 3 years’ experience working in a law firm
BL and LLB, LLM (added advantage)
Preferred candidate should have experience working in an Oil and gas company either providing legal advisory services or by acting as an in-house counsel
Experience working as a legal associate in a law firm is an added advantage.
Functional Skills & Business Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of international/ local corporate and commercial law as it relates to the various industries which the Group’s businesses operate,
Experience in commercial law including contract drafting
Strong Microsoft Word and secretarial skills and
Ability to interpret and analyze the law and the legal issues
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to take good decisions based on the law are absolutely essential.
