Job Title: Terminal Manager
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Reporting To: Operations Director
The Role
Responsible for operations of the Nigerdock Port Terminal Division. This includes being accountable for the business operations provided within the terminal facility
Ensure that the terminal is operating to world class standard in safety, efficiency, turn around times and to all customers
To provides input for effective strategies for operating the terminal at optimal levels with a focus on constant improvement
Personnel reporting directly to this role:
Terminal operations division staff, stevedores and equipment operators
Responsibilities
Responsible for all matters relating to the efficient and safe utilisation of terminal facilities, equipment and operations manpower to achieve optimum throughput as efficiently as possible
Ensure safety policies and practices are being adhered to and are fundamental to the Company culture
Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and liaise with Port and Local Authorities in this respect as required
Continually review, benchmark, plan and implement operational strategies to ensure that the Terminal develops and grows profitably
Organisation of the operations unit with a presence at the locations and with customers as required
Being the visible representation of the customs activities in front of the customers and supporting the development of the business
Participates in reviews for new projects, initiatives, and contribute to project management strategies
Control tasks with regard to quality, handling volumes, the use of resources and the pursuit of goals
Control of escalations and technical clarification of claims with the initiation and pursuit of measures
Ensure work procedures and work schedules are being adhered to and that corrective action is being taken within the terminal facility operations
Promote collaboration within facility teams to work to provide creative and innovative ideas to improve operational productivity while maintaining a safe work environment
Monitor Container Handling Equipment (CHE) and CHE related assets and respond, resolve, and follow up on notifications of breakdown to ensure maximum uptime
Manage breakdown response teams by prioritising operational impact and ensuring a rapid restoration of equipment function
Drive an engaged organisation, achieving high level of engagement
Oversee and direct the terminal facility operations to achieve the highest level of safety, productivity, and customer service with a focus constantly on cost and efficient use of labor.
Requirements
Minimum university degree in Logistics, Maritime and Port, or Process / Industrial Engineering or a marine qualification
Detailed knowledge of all resources in Nigeria
Good knowledge of customs and foreign trade law
Thorough knowledge of every aspect of Terminal Operations and excellent overall industry experience
Action-oriented manager with high energy levels, initiative and a strong collaborative approach to doing business
Must be structured, organised and proactive
Candidates with experience in start-ups or expansion projects are of particular interest
Able to provide leadership, obtain cooperation and assistance to meet objectives within a multi-cultural environment
Organisational, influence and communication skills.
Business knowledge commercial orientated
Good at processes analysis and productivity improvement
Strong transportation and logistics background with a thorough understanding of the day-to-day operations, their limits, their capabilities and both internal characteristics and external factors influencing them
