Institute of Technology & Management (ITM) - Established by the Cross River State Government (CRSG) of Nigeria in partnership with Highbury College Portsmouth, UK as part of a unique, transformational state wide Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Ecosystem project CRSG has appointed Highbury to manage ITM to world-class standards.

Job Title: Nurse and Health Visitor

Location: Cross River State, Nigeria

Job Description

• The Nurse & Health Visitor is responsible for providing nursing services to the Institute including first aid and emergency treatment, the prevention of illness, the early detection and treatment of health problems and the promotion of good health and well-being for the students and staff.

Main Duties

• Providing first aid and emergency care and treatment for students and staff.
• Practical emergency nursing such as treating blood/fluid loss, suturing of deep wounds, good CPR/using a defibrillator, immobilising fractures.
• Providing a confidential advice service, basic counselling and drop-in health & welfare clinic.
• Ensuring care plans are developed as necessary including cases of asthma, epilepsy, diabetes and anaphylaxis. Administering medicines under protocol, keeping accurate dispensing records and maintaining all medical records and first aid kits.
• Evaluating and interpreting cumulative health data to develop an ITM health plan.
• Maintaining the stock in the treatment rooms and being responsible for the hygiene and tidiness of the area.

Essential Criteria

• Good standard of education including GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths/English (Grades A* to C).
• A professional nursing qualification resulting in the applicant being a registered nurse,
• Evidence of commitment to self-development.
• Membership of the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
• Experience of working in a similar role.
• Excellent understanding of Health, Safety and Well-being.
• A good level of practical nursing skills.
• Excellent communication skills including sensitivity and basic counseling.
• Ability to effectively plan and prioritise workload.
• Very good IT and administration skills to maintain medical and dispensing records.
• Understanding of safeguarding in the context of education.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Professional approach to work and appearance.
• Commitment to operating in a harmonious, safe and secure environment.
