Budget Officer at IITA Nigeria

International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is an international non-profit research-for-development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Our R4D is anchored on the development needs of sub-Saharan Africa. We develop agricultural solutions with our partners to tackle hunger and poverty by reducing producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture. We have more than 100 internationally recruited scientists from about 35 countries and 900 nationally recruited staff based in various stations across Africa.

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigerian Nationals for the following position at the Institute’s Headquarters, Ibadan.

Position:  Budget Officer

Duration: 2-year renewable contract

Duties:

Successful candidate will among other things:

• Develop detailed operating and capital budgets for each financial year
• Review and develop key underlying assumptions on costs, local staff numbers, anticipated rate increases etc
• Prepare budget input and carry out maintenance of file to update the operating detail report (OPD) with approved operation and capital budget allocations
• Identify and monitor incoming core funds for booking onto the Financial Information System
• Review purchase order requests against budgets
• Review account balances, monthly schedules, variances etc, and attend to queries that may arise on account charges in relation to budgets
• Handle insurance matters
• Assist in Fixed Assets Management
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor

Qualification and Experience

B.Sc/ HND in Accounting plus ACA. Minimum of 4 years working experience in the Budget and Planning Unit of a large organization.

The ideal candidate must:

• Be honest and hardworking
• Be a good team player and demonstrate ability to work with minimum supervision
• Have sound analytical mind and good knowledge of computer spreadsheet
• Be willing to put in extra hours
