Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in under-served communities worldwide.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Project Manager

Location: Kano
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Project Manager will join our team in Kano office, Nigeria to effectively manage project activities and resources, provide leadership and stewardship to the project team and maintain collaborative links with the project's key stakeholders in Nassarawa LGA, Kano.
  • He/she reports to the Program Director and works intimately with the CGPP Coordinator, WASH Coordinator, Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator in execution of the project.
  • He/she participates in defining intervention priorities, develop necessary contacts and relationships with government, non-government, donors and UN agencies at the field level; Contribute to the development of strategies and manage existing programs and resources, and provide day to day supervision, management and coaching to a wide team of IMC staff.
  • He/she ensures that IMC program in Nassarawa LGA delivers the highest level of quality of health and WASH interventions that are outlined on the project to increase demand for primary healthcare (PHC) services for children under five and pregnant/lactating women.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Internal Coordination and Program Management:

  • Coordination and technical implementation of the project by ensuring program quality and completion of activities within allocated funding and project period.
  • Ensures that program needs at the field site are met with adequate operational support through regular meetings with project staff, Finance-Administration, Human Resources and Procurement.
  • Participate in program activity planning, implementation, strategy, needs assessment, meetings, etc.
  • Ensure staff training and capacity building as necessary to meet the needs of the implemented program.
  • Report to Program Director, and copy the CGPP Coordinator, WASH Coordinator, logistics Coordinator and Finance Director in a timely manner.
  • Logistics management (with technical support from Logistic Coordinator, field logistics officer ensure that IMC logistics procedures are implemented and respected.
  • Adapt the project’s team structure according to needs, resources and capacities.
  • Ensure high quality project implementation in accordance with donor and IMC regulations as well as in line with agreed log frames/indicators, budgets, procurement plans and work plans.
  • Oversee the expanding of the health programming in Kano state as would be necessary.
  • Work closely with Logistics and Procurement Manager and Supply Chain Officer in order to ensure that proper documentation and accountability of supplies is in line with donor requirements and best warehousing / distribution practices.
  • Supervising the project staff and training government and partner organization staff,
  • Interact and liaise with representatives from NPHCDA, SMoH, WHO, UNICEF, CDC and other stakeholders.

Finance / HR / Admin management:

  • With technical support from Finance Director and HR Coordinator, to ensure that IMC finance and HR procedures are implemented and respected.
  • Submit regular cash requests and forecasts based on activity needs
  • Coordinate with budget holders and Finance unit to ensure adequate for support for program operations
  • Ensure that field finance/admin and implement appropriate accounting, cash management, salary payments, HR procedures and file other administrative issues
  • With the Budget Holder, ensure that activities and expenses are regularly monitored and, as needed, action plans with follow-up are developed to correct any over- or underspending in a timely manner.

Coordination and Representation:

  • Represent IMC in meetings relevant to IMC’s health work in Nigeria, including at meetings with partners, donors, government officials and cluster/coordination meetings.
  • Ensure reporting and liaison to local authorities, as needed
  • Ensure IMC’s programming approach is known and correctly understood by all stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders - including community leaders, NGOs, UN agencies, community-based organizations
  • Pro-active communication and coordination with other IMC teams (programmatic and support functions) to ensure safe, timely, effective and accountable achievement of objectives and targets Ensure that information from coordination meetings is shared internally and with other sectors, as appropriate.
  • Regular coordination and liaison with CGPP and WASH Sectors’ Working Group partners and other actors in the field, contributing to shaping the overall FS strategy of the NE Nigeria response.
  • Advocate with and/or advise peer agencies, local government, and other stakeholders to influence responses to promote delivery of inclusive and high-quality nutrition response services.
  • Pro-actively liaise and build good rapport with INGO, UN, local authority officials, community representatives, and any other relevant stakeholders
  • In coordination with the Project Coordinator effectively create and maintain smooth relations and open collaboration with Government and local stakeholders and serve as the health resource person

Staff Management:

  • Supervise and support the operation and program staff to ensure that work is done properly and efficiently.
  • Routinely monitor and conduct staff performance appraisals according to their job description and set objectives, through the IMC Performance Management
  • Provide technical support and direct supervision of field site and collaboration with district medical team on proper implementation of the service.

Donor Relations / Funding:

  • Reports in a consistent and timely manner to IMC management and donors with regard to project progress and future plans.  
  • Represent the organization to other implementing partners, government, and donor entities at field level. Help build strong relationships with donors and UN agencies at field level to ensure predictable funding for IMC’s health programming in Nigeria.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Reporting:

  • Participate as required in project kick-off, closeout and review meetings. Ensure documentation and follow up of action points in a timely manner.
  • Include the participation of beneficiaries and communities, particularly those most vulnerable or at-risk, in all stages of the project cycle where appropriate.
  • Work with the Data assistant to implement and evaluate data quality assurance measures and ensure appropriate follow up.
  • Ensure that the community based feedback mechanism is integrated in all facility sites where IMC is implementing activities. Utilize this mechanism to provide response and feedback to target communities.
  • Prepare and provide regular weekly, monthly, quarterly & annual progress reports of project interventions in coordination with the Data Assistant.
  • Participate in dissemination of program information to communities, children, and other Stakeholders through a regular feedback mechanism.
  • Ensure that all project activities are included in M&E plans and work closely with M&E Coordinator to ensure learning is institutionalized in programming. Ensure key lessons learned are incorporated in new project proposals.

Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse:

  • Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.

Compliance & Ethics:

  • Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout International Medical Corps.
  • As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards. Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.

Qualifications and Experience
Education:

  • MBBS, B.Sc in Nursing Science, Degree in Public Health, and Environmental Health with an advanced University Degree Public Health will be an added advantage.
  • Certified training in project planning and management, monitoring and evaluation, is an added advantage.
  • Data management, data analysis, and information operations.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible public health project management work experience.
  • Health Experience in running Primary Care Program especially with NGO/INGO.
  • Experience of facilitation of training review meetings and workshops.
  • Experience on budget and administration logistics and Human Resources management.
  • Experience on writing / developing project proposals including implementation reports.
  • Knowledge of Northwest Nigeria as well as speaking Hausa language is an asset.
  • Ability to cope with stress; hardship; patience and flexibility and willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines;
  • Ability to work effectively with government, community leaders, international/national organizations, donors, partners and other International Medical Corps relationships.
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of MS Office, and other computer applications.
