Malaria and Child Health Specialist at Targeted States High Impact Project (TSHIP) Nigeria

TSHIP (Targeted States High Impact Projects) is a five-year program focused on the improvement of Health Systems and the Management of Health Systems for higher quality Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health. Family Planning, and Reproductive Health service delivery in Nigeria. TSHIP is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by a group of foreign and local non-governmental organizations consisting of John Snow Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI), Center for Development & Population Activities (CEDPA), Futures Group International LLC, JHPIEGO, and Management Strategies for Africa (MSA).

The Targeted States High Impact Project (TSHIP) Nigeria is recruiting to fill the below position:

Position: Malaria and Child Health Specialist
Job Location: Bauchi

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical assistance and support for malaria & child health activities.
• Work to expand coverage and institutionalize the ITN program, malaria case management, malaria in pregnant women issue and other prominent malaria & child health issues.
• Support preparation of training/implementation guidelines and materials for building regional/provincial and district level capacity for strengthening the implementation of EPI, NIDS, disease control and provision of micronutrients.
• Participate in technical committees to strengthen technical skills and implementation of guidelines relating to child health and malaria.
• Develop plans for the project’s malaria & child health strategy within the project’s strategic framework, including strengthening the routine immunization system and supporting the continued delivery of immunizations and vitamin A.
• Assist stakeholders with identification and selection of appropriate child health & malaria interventions.
• Provide technical assistance to develop and implement improved approaches to supervision, monitoring and support of health personnel at provincial, district and health center levels.

Qualifications:

• Doctorate degree or equivalent in the health sciences, with specialized malaria & child health training.
• Minimum of 7 years public health experience in program, technical and training support, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience providing technical assistance in child health and international malaria control to a range of partners from the State, LGA, & Ward level.
• Demonstrated ability to be both a team player and to lead teams and to organize multiple and simultaneous sets of activities.
• Strong community ties and demonstrated ability to work with communities, WARD development committees, LGA leadership and SMOH technical staff. Must have the confidence of the client.
• Clear understanding of public health issues and challenges in resource poor settings in Northern Nigeria.
• Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access; ability to produce accurate reports and data on activities.
• Excellent communication skills in local languages; ability to give clear instructions; good English writing skills an asset.
• Commitment to working toward the goals of the SMOH and the TSHIP program.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively in the field, under at times suboptimal conditions.
