Living Earth Foundation (LEF) is organizing a
2010 Literary Competition funded by
Department for International Development (DFID). DFID Nigeria (DFIDN) is responsible for managing the British Government's contribution to development in Nigeria, with the objective of supporting governments at federal and stale level to reduce poverty in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The competition is open to all interested Nigerians. There is no age limit.
IntroductionLiving Earth Nigeria Foundation (LENF) and Living Earth Foundation (LEF) UK in partnership with Academic Associates Peace Works (AAPW) and Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (IHRHL) are currently implementing a department for International Development of the United Kingdom Goverment (DFID) funded project in 6 LGAs, two each from River, Bayelsa and Delta States. The project is funded under the Government and Transparency Fund (GTF) programme of DFID.
The project aims at strenghtening the effectiveness of the LGAs in delivering basic services to the citizens and improving their communications while at the same time building the capacity of civil society groups within the LGAs to engage with their goverment and influence policy. A key component of the project is awareness raising on good governance. These values are to celebrated and promoted through radio programme, cultural festivals and literary competiitons.
The competition aims at reinforcing the objectives of GTF project in the Niger Delta and beyond enabling a wider spread of the message of good governance in Nigeria, promoting participation of the people in ensuring good governance at the local, state and national levels and stimulating public debate on the link between sustainable development and good governance.
This call for entries of creative written materials is in futherance of the project objectives and will go a long way in projecting our core valeus as a people.
Theme for the CompetitionWhile there is no specific topic prescribed for the competion, all entries must address the broad theme of
Our Delta, our values and good governanceFormat of Entries- Shot plays (not more than 2,500 words).
- Short stories (not more than 2,500 words).
- Poems (maximun of 3 stanzas of not more than 10 lines each).
- Essays (not more than 2,500 words).
Each submission shall be typewriten in Arial - 11 font size and double-spaced with 0.5 inch margin on both sides of A4 paper. The submission must be accompanied with the name, phone number and address of the candidate boldly witten on top. A participant is entitled to one submission only as multiple entries by one participant will lead to disqualification.
Prizes to be wonThe best entry selected from each of the following categories shall win a cash prize of
Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000);

Eligibility for ParticipationThe competition is open to all interested Nigerians. There is no age limit.

6th of July, 2010. Entries received after this time shall not be considered.

Literary Competition shall be marked on the top left hand corner of the envelop while the Author's name, contact address (not P.O. Box) and phone number should be written on the other side.
Presentation of Prizes & Publication of Winning Entriesprizes will be presented to winners at an award ceremony to be announced in due course. The winning entries shall be published thereafter.
The judges' decision shall be final with respect to selected entries
