Job Title: Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting Expert - Energy Support Program (NESP III)

The Position Overview

  • Energy 4 Impact is seeking an internationally experiencedMonitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Expertto support the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP III) in the development of off‑grid renewable energy projects.
  • The Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Expert will be central to ensuring high‑quality documentation, visibility, and learning throughout the implementation of this assignment.
  • Working closely with the Team Leader and technical experts, this expert will track progress across all workstreams, ensure coherence between activities and project objectives, and support transparent, timely reporting to the client.
  • The role requires strong experience in development communications, results documentation, and reporting for renewable energy and rural electrification programs.

Key Responsibilities
Monitoring, Tracking & Documentation:

  • Track all project activities, outputs, and achievements to ensure alignment with assignment objectives and expected impacts.
  • Maintain a clear, structured overview of milestones, deliverables, and progress indicators across all work packages.
  • Support the Team Leader in consolidating milestones and reporting on the assignment, as well as preparing inputs for NESP reporting to its funders.

Reporting & Knowledge Management:

  • Ensure timely preparation of high‑quality reports, briefs, and progress updates in line with GIZ requirements.
  • Document major milestones, outcomes, and impacts to enhance visibility and accountability to funders and stakeholders.
  • Prepare lessons learned, case studies, and knowledge products to support sector‑wide learning and dissemination.

Communications & Visibility:

  • Advise on communication strategies and plans to ensure effective visibility of project progress and outcomes.
  • Support the development of communication materials that highlight achievements, innovations, and impacts in off‑grid renewable energy.
  • Ensure that communication outputs are coherent, accurate, and aligned with GIZ visibility guidelines.

Collaboration & Support:

  • Work closely with the Team Leader and technical experts to ensure consistent, coordinated reporting across all work packages.
  • Provide ongoing support to ensure that monitoring and reporting processes are embedded in day‑to‑day implementation.
  • Contribute to internal coordination, ensuring that information flows smoothly between experts and task orders.

  • Actively learns about safeguarding and integrates it into their work, including safeguarding risks and mitigations related to their area of work.
  • Practices the values of Mercy Corps including respecting the dignity and well-being of participants and fellow team members

Required Qualifications & Experience
Education:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent, e.g., German Diploma) in communications, public policy, international development, or a related field.

Languages:

  • Excellent command of English (C1 level, CEFR).

Professional Experience:

  • General: Minimum 10 years of professional experience in the power sector, working with both public and private entities. At least 5 of these years must have been acquired within the last 6 years.
  • Specific: At least 5 years in communications and reporting of renewable energy project, 3 of which in rural electrification projects under international development.
  • International experience: At least 4 years in one country with an economy in transition outside the West Africa region
  • Regional experience: At least 2 years of professional experience in West Africa, including a minimum of 1 year in Nigeria.
  • At least 3 years of experience working on development cooperation projects.

Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders:

  • Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work.

Success Factors:

  • The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator and MEL professional with a strong track record in documenting results for renewable energy and rural electrification programs.
  • They combine analytical rigor with excellent writing and communication skills, and are adept at transforming technical information into clear, compelling reports and knowledge products.
  • They are proactive, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working across diverse teams and cultural contexts.
  • Their experience in West Africa—particularly Nigeria—enables them to contextualize findings and ensure that reporting reflects on‑the‑ground realities and sector priorities.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions:

  • The position is based in Africa and it requires up to 40% travel to support country programs, which may include travel to insecure locations where freedom of movement is limited and areas where amenities are limited.
  • Housing for this role is in individual housing and staff will have access to good medical services and the living situation is of a high standard.
