Job Title: Groundskeeper

Purpose of the Position

• The Facility Unit provides support services in infrastructure maintenance, workspace optimization, and operational efficiency, which are critical to achieving the organization’s mission.
• Through the effective management of physical resources and environments, the unit ensures a safe, functional, and sustainable workspace that enables staff productivity and supports organizational goals.
• The Groundskeeper is responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, and aesthetic upkeep of all outdoor areas within the eHealth Africa facility, including lawns, gardens, walkways, and parking lots.
• S/he will manage landscaping activities, outdoor sanitation, and basic grounds repairs, while also monitoring and restocking outdoor maintenance supplies.
• The ideal candidate is a dependable, detail-oriented individual committed to creating and maintaining a clean, functional, and visually appealing outdoor space that supports the organization's operations and enhances the overall workplace experience.

What you’ll do
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned:

• Perform daily upkeep and maintenance of all outdoor areas, including lawns, gardens, walkways, parking lots, and exterior signage.
• Ensure that all external spaces such as entrances, grounds, and recreational areas remain clean, well-trimmed, and visually appealing.
• Carry out routine landscaping tasks such as mowing, watering, weeding, pruning, and removal of debris or litter.
• Monitor and manage outdoor maintenance supplies, ensuring items like gardening tools, and fertilizers are available and in good condition.
• Follow scheduled maintenance routines and carry out tasks assigned by the Facility Supervisor to ensure consistency and timely completion of duties.
• Comply with health, safety, and environmental standards in all groundskeeping activities.
• Participate in team briefings, safety drills, and relevant training sessions focused on facility care and grounds management.
• Exhibit professionalism, punctuality, and accountability in carrying out assigned responsibilities.
• Promote a respectful, cooperative, and team-oriented work environment while adhering to eHealth Africa's policies, procedures, and Code of Conduct.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of SSCE / High School Certificate; additional vocational training or certification in landscaping, horticulture, or facility maintenance is an added advantage.
• 1–2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within an NGO, hospitality, or office environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of groundskeeping techniques, use of landscaping equipment, and adherence to outdoor safety standards.
• Good understanding of English is required for both verbal and written communication.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, kneel, stand, and walk for extended periods.
• Comfortable operating lawnmowers, trimmers, and other maintenance equipment safely.
