Job Title: Laboratory Technician
Location: Lagos

Description
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for supporting laboratory operations at Acouns Laboratory by assisting in sample collection, preparation, testing procedures, and equipment maintenance.
The role ensures that laboratory processes run smoothly, safely, and efficiently while maintaining accuracy and compliance with laboratory standards.
The Laboratory Technician works closely with Laboratory Scientists and the Laboratory Manager to ensure proper sample handling, accurate documentation, equipment readiness, and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Assist in collecting, labelling, and preparing laboratory samples according to standard procedures.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of specimens to maintain sample integrity.
Verify patient information and sample identification to prevent errors.
Prepare samples for testing by laboratory scientists.
Laboratory Testing Support:
Assist laboratory scientists in routine testing procedures.
Prepare reagents, culture media, and testing materials as required.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory workstations.
Support smooth workflow during testing procedures.
Quality Control & Safety Compliance:
Follow laboratory SOPs and quality control procedures strictly.
Ensure laboratory safety practices are maintained at all times.
Properly dispose of laboratory waste according to safety guidelines.
Report any deviations, safety concerns, or irregularities immediately.
Equipment Handling & Maintenance:
Assist in routine cleaning and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Ensure equipment is properly set up before testing procedures begin.
Report malfunctioning equipment to the Laboratory Scientist or Manager promptly.
Support calibration and maintenance activities when required.
Inventory & Reagent Support:
Assist in monitoring laboratory supplies and reagent stock levels.
Support inventory checks and documentation of laboratory materials.
Ensure reagents and consumables are properly stored.
Help prevent reagent wastage and stock shortages.
Documentation & Record Management:
Maintain accurate records of samples received and processed.
Assist with laboratory logs, registers, and documentation.
Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and submitted as required.
Support audit readiness through proper record keeping.
Operational Support & Team Collaboration:
Support laboratory staff to ensure efficient daily operations.
Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of laboratory spaces.
Work collaboratively with laboratory scientists, technicians, and other staff.
Follow instructions from the Laboratory Manager or supervising scientist.
Success in this Role Will Mean
Samples are properly collected, labelled, and prepared without errors.
Laboratory scientists receive well-prepared samples for accurate testing.
Equipment and workstations are always clean and ready for use.
Laboratory supplies and reagents are properly managed with minimal wastage.
Records and documentation are accurate and well maintained.
Laboratory operations run smoothly with strong teamwork and efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field
Relevant certification where applicable
1–3 years experience in a clinical or diagnostic laboratory (preferred)
Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment
Understanding of laboratory safety and quality standards.
Skills & Competencies:
Basic laboratory technical knowledge and skills
Attention to detail and accuracy in handling samples
Knowledge of laboratory safety and hygiene practices
Ability to follow procedures and instructions carefully
Good organizational and documentation skills

Salary
N100,000 per month.
