Job Title: Safety Officer

Location: Lagos

Job Summary

• The Safety Officer is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by implementing Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• The role involves conducting inspections, risk assessments, safety training, incident investigations, and ensuring compliance with applicable HSE standards to prevent workplace accidents and environmental incidents.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and monitor the company's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with HSE standards.
• Carry out risk assessments and recommend appropriate control measures.
• Ensure employees comply with safety regulations, permit-to-work systems, and safe work practices.
• Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and HSE awareness training for employees and contractors.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, and prepare detailed reports with corrective actions.
• Monitor the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure availability where required.
• Maintain HSE records, reports, statistics, and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements and client HSE standards.
• Participate in emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness activities.
• Monitor environmental compliance, including waste management, pollution prevention, and sustainability initiatives.
• Support management in achieving HSE objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies, clients, and contractors on HSE matters when required.

Job Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:

• HND, B.Sc., or equivalent qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2–5 years of HSE experience in construction, manufacturing, oil & gas, energy, engineering, or related industries.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and environmental management practices.
• Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
