Designs For Life (DFL) Entrepreneurship/Skills Acquisition Training for Women

Designs for Life LLC (DFL) is a social enterprise, which enables socio-economic development by recruiting and training female artisans to produce high quality furniture.

DFL trains women between the ages of nineteen (19) and thirty- five (35) in the fine art of furniture making and interior decoration, Our courses are two-year long programs divided up into 4 inter-related modules. Each module is a six-month long program on specific aspects of wood-crafting and interior decorating. Students are, however, advised to take at least two modules to gain basic practical knowledge in the key areas of the furniture making. To ensure that we provide the highest quality of both practical and theoretical training in our field of interest, we have assembled a crop of highly experienced local carpenters, and lecturers from the Federal Technical College, Yaba.

At the moment, the cost of tuition is fully covered by DFL. There is also a stipend of about ten thousand naira (#10,000) a month for ten qualified trainees. Trainees, however, have to buy their initial training tools and course materials.

Application Closing Date
Module one of the 2013/2015 training session starts on Monday, 18th February 2013. Please note that there are, presently, only twenty-five (25) admission spaces on this course.
