African Development Bank established to strengthen dialogue between the Bank and the Government is recruiting to fill the below position:

Job Title: Senior Financial Accountant - Special Funds Division
Grade: PL5

Objectives

To ensure that:
  • The department stays abreast of relevant new or emerging issues in international accounting and reporting standards and their impact on the financial statements of the ADB Group;
  • The accounting policies of the Bank Group are sound and consistent with international accounting standards and multilateral development bank industry practices.
  • The financial statements of the Bank Group are prepared not only on time, but also are of the highest quality.
Duties and responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Division Manager, FFCO.1, the incumbent will carry out the following functions:
  • Monitor developments and pronouncements by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and communicate their implications on the ADB Group to management.  This would also entail drafting responses to IASB on other relevant exposure drafts;
  • Lead or assist in the implementation of new International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS);
  • Provide technical accounting guidance to senior management on complex, difficult or unusual transactions.  This would include proactive participation in discussions of significant financial transactions, in the development of new financial products and also in relevant information technology projects;
  • Formulate, update and disseminate the Accounting Policy manual for the Bank Group.  Liaise and consult with comparator organizations;
  • Assist in the preparation of periodic financial statements of the Bank Group;
  • Check the accuracy of the monthly and quarterly financial statements;
  • Provide recommendations on adequacy of disclosures in financial statements, in relations to IFRS, financial impact of new standards or new transactions contemplated by the Bank, changes to Bank’s financial policies, rules and regulations;
  • Obtain information relevant for the preparation of financial statements and provide professional opinions on financial reports and explanations on financial statements;
  • Be a contact person with external auditors, accounting policy managers of sisters organizations, and IASB;
  • Understand and interpret the Accounting Standards, regulations and various agreements correctly.
Requirements
  • At least a Master's/Post-graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Audit, Business Administration, or Banking, combined with a membership of an internationally recognised professional accounting body e. g. CA, CPA, ACCA or Expert Comptable;
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, including experience in an accounting firm of international repute;
  • Very good computer skills including proficiency in SAP, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint;
  • Excellent writing skills, and ability to explain technical accounting issues to subordinates and colleagues;
  • Good team player and excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated competences for accuracy, attention to detail, integrity and update knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards;
  • Ability to communicate and write effectively in French and/or English, with a very good working knowledge of the other language is a necessity.
