The African development Bank’s data center infrastructure consists of three physical data centers in Tunis, Pretoria, and Abidjan with state of art servers, storage systems, virtualized systems and highly available network. The data centers support mission critical enterprise applications, such as SAP based ERP, BI, Oracle apps, Internet, Intranet, exchange email, Sharepoint, etc.

African Development Bank established to strengthen dialogue between the Bank and the Government is recruiting to fill the below position:

Job Title: Principal and Senior Systems Engineer - Data Center, Linux, Unix, Windows, Virtualization, Storage - Information Management Department / Infrastructure and Telecommunication Division

Grade: PL-4 & PL-5
Reference: ADB/13/021

Objectives
The principal activities of the Infrastructure Division (CIMM2) are to ensure that the infrastructure and data center systems of the Bank fit the needs of the Institution and function in an efficient and cost effective manner.
Among others Senior Systems Engineer will work in a virtualized, automated on-demand utility computing environment. Emphasis on this position is providing network/infrastructure as a service in a cloud infrastructure environment.

Duties and responsibilities
The System Engineer will ensure effective and efficient infrastructure system functionality, including all data centre, data closet, and desktop systems and peripherals. Work proactively and reactively to resolve infrastructure system issues in an efficient, timely, and effective manner, to maximize business productivity and minimize business downtime. Work closely with portfolio and business teams to understand business needs to implement forward thinking business solutions.
  • Build enterprise level virtual custom platforms for customers involving unique applications and custom networking requirements.
  • Build new virtual machines of various OS’s, Windows and Linux, and deploying monitoring, patching, and backup solutions for customers.
  • Work in a group that manages ERP, SAP, Microsoft, Active Directory, Data Backup, Exchange, SharePoint, EDMS, Citrix, VM and SAN Experience and Disaster Recovery services.
  • Define processes and procedures for fast paced growth of the cloud platform to ensure uniform, repeatable process for VM deployment.
  • Provide user support for Level 2/3 and above support issue escalations.
  • Research, evaluate, recommend, and implement tools, and solutions that help to improve the efficiency and reliability of our operations.
  • Troubleshoot, assess, and coordinate equipment and systems repair as required.
  • Interface with technology vendors for equipment servicing, training, etc. whether warranty or routine maintenance.
  • Handles the Preparation and presentation of training information to technical staff and user personnel
  • Maintains usage statistics, issue and repair logs, or other collection/reporting systems.
  • Provide training and client support to end users in the operations of audiovisual systems.
  • Understand and adhere to Bank’s standard operating procedures.
  • Create and modify user documentation and standard operation procedures (SOPs) as required.
  • Provide technical consultation, support, and act as lead contact for all data center operations and maintenance.
  • Interact in person, by phone, and/or e-mail directly with clients and end-users.
  • Keeping abreast of current technology.

Qualification/Skills/Experience
  • Strong experience in OS system engineering and administration, Linux, Unix, and Windows
  • Strong experience in virtualization development such as Open Stack, Cloud Stack, CentOS, KVM, Nova.
  • Excellent experience in system scripting, such as PERL, PYTHON, Shell, etc
  • Experience using enterprise grade system tools for the following services: Backup, Monitoring, Patching, and Anti-Virus.
  • Installation and hands on management of enterprise level SAN’s in highly redundant, replicated environments.
  • Extensive experience building and deploying new servers, both virtual and physical and using automation tools to perform repetitive actions.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills; ability to triage effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced high-end customer focused corporate environment.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
  • Self-directed, detail-oriented with strong technical, people, & project management/leadership skills.
  • Advanced ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing).
  • Ability to exceed expectations projecting a calm and professional demeanor even during stressful situations.
  • Accountable for client satisfaction; maintains/builds effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrate flexibility (e.g., redeployment, off-hour setup requests, etc.)
  • 5 - 10 years’ experience in system admin or engineering, data center operations, storage operations.
  • Experience with Web-based applications.
  • Vendor specific certifications on systems or storage Admin is fva plus.
  • Software/OS: Unix, Linux, Windows (all flavors of desktop and server), Virtualization, Citrix, etc.
