Purpose For the Job
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Lagos Field Office – Partnerships, this post is responsible to:
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate all corporate partnerships and fundraising activities in order to support existing programs and raise funds to support UNICEF Nigeria Country Office.
  • Manage and grow corporate fundraising income, working proactively to identify further prospects and develop relationships to secure income and create long term partnerships.
  • Update and maintain a proper mapping of partnership prospects in Lagos, both national and foreign entities.
  • Provide extensive inputs to the drafting of the private sector engagement strategy of the office
Summary of key functions/accountabilities
  • Within the delegated authority and the given organizational set-up, the incumbent may be accountable for all or assigned areas of the following major duties and end results.
  • Under the guidance of the Chief of Lagos Field Office - Partnerships, assess the potential market and identify opportunities for new partnerships, for example through corporate philanthropy, cause-related marketing, customer and employee giving, special events etc. and expand corporate partnerships and fundraising network in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure successful corporates fundraising partnership results and develop feasible and beneficial partnership proposals
  • Coordinate the development of prospective partners through to final approval; manage the implementation of agreed partnerships, in liaison with Communication and relevant Programme section(s); cultivate existing corporate partners; expand these partnerships wherever possible.
  • Carry out administrative and operational tasks for fundraising activities, including obtaining clearances and approvals from PFP/HQ, in coordination with the PFP Regional Support Centre.
  • Assist in managing proper control of the allocated budget so that expenditures/income are in line with agreed work-plan and budget.
  • Prepare in a timely manner all required activity reports, investment funding applications and other documents as needed by PFP RSC and PFP HQ.
  • In collaboration with other UNICEF staff (Communication and programme staff), develop integrated information materials which support corporate partnerships and raise public awareness of UNICEF's work in Nigeria.
  • Participate in meetings and workshops and other appropriate fora with various private/public sector organisations such as events to facilitate the implementation of strategies and tactics for the private sector fundraising.
  • Contributes to the preparation, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of the PSFR strategy and work plan, by compiling and analyzing relevant data. Makes recommendations to the Chief of Fundraising on Corporate Fundraising.
  • Negotiates corporate alliances, coordinates the execution of partnerships; develops and maintains close relations with corporate partners, a, develops a pipeline of potential partners, and wins new partners in order to meet or exceed corporate channel income goals.
  • Monitors due compliance of corporate proposals within UNICEF's frameworks for working with the corporate sector analyzes proposals and made recommendations to the Chief of Fund raising.
  • Drafts and edits proposals for key allies in the Corporate Sector. Prepares and Follows up corporate screenings and proposal to be sent to the Chief of Fundraising.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing corporate partnerships as well as develop and maintain new ones. All corporate fundraising must be done in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Develop corporate fundraising strategies and implementation of various relevant activities, i.e. corporate philanthropy, special events, customer giving, corporate pathways to pledge, etc.
  • Manage overall corporate fundraising data and information. Prepare and maintain updated records and reports on a periodic basis and contribute to the preparation of the annual budget and work plan
  • Carry out administrative and operational tasks for fundraising activities, including obtaining clearances and approvals from PSD/HQ, in coordination with the Regional Support Centre, PSD.
Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor Degree (Advanced university degree highly desirable) and relevant professional qualifications or additional years of equivalent background in Business Administration, Marketing, management or Communications or related subject.
  • University degree in Marketing, Economics, Communication, Fundraising or Business Administration; sound and up-to-date knowledge of corporate partnership management.
  • Advanced University degree in Public Relations, Marketing, business administration or related fields.
Experience:
  • Minimum two years relevant professional work experience in corporate partnership, corporate engagement, corporate fundraising or public relations activities; preferably 5 years of experience or more in the field of work.
  • Two years of professional experience in the relevant field or five years of progressive responsible work experience in business development and management with particular focus on fundraising/ marketing/ communication activities.
  • Two years professional experience in the relevant field or in business development and management with particular focus on fundraising/marketing/ communication activities.
  • The management of fund raising activities among private sector organizations/ companies/individuals, through social marketing and advocacy/information/communication techniques and current knowledge of market research methods is an asset.
  • Local knowledge of the Lagos based private sector environment.
  • Experience in budgeting and financial skills are desirable.
  • Experience in working within business and the private sector, and/or with NGOs is an asset.
Language Requirements:
  • Fluency in English is required.  Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset.
