Nigerian Prisons Service - The attention of the Nigerian Prisons Service has been drawn to a publication in some media quoting the Controller General of Prisons as saying that the Prisons authority has been empowered to recruit 6,545 personnel.

This story is untrue as the Controller General of Prisons was quoted out of context. To put the record straight, the CGP while responding to a question on shortage of personnel during the 2017 budget defence at the National Assembly, only said that the Nigeria Prisons Service had secured a waiver to recruit about 6,545 personnel, but that the financial implication for this engagement in terms of emoluments and allowances will amount to about N6.766 billion which has not been provided. It goes without saying therefore, that until the said amount is made available to the service, the recruitment exercise cannot commence.

It is rather unfortunate that some unscrupulous elements have engaged various social media platforms to dupe job seekers by asking them to pay money eitherto obtain ‘forms’ or process ‘recruitment papers’.

Some scammers have even opened a fake facebook account in the name of the Controller General of Prisons Ja’afaru Ahmed asking for payment of various amounts of money for contract engagements.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Nigerian Prisons Service neither recruits via intermediaries nor request applicants to pay money to procure employment forms. At the appropriate time, advert for vacancies will be made by the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board (CDFIPB) for qualified Nigerians to indicate their interest including conditions for engagement.

The public is therefore, advised to discountenance any such entreaties either for job placement or contract awards. Anyone who does business with any group(s) or individual(s) on behalf of the service does so at his or her own risk.
