Job Title: Operations Advisor – Power Project

Report To: Operations Superintendent – New Operations ( Power & Gas Projects)

Job Functions
  • Maintain/build/apply competency in specific area of commercial gas turbine power plants operation & maintenance (O&M)
  • Identify and assist in resolving operability, maintainability and reliability gaps in QIPP
  • MPN representative responsible for reviewing all aspects of the project from engineering through construction, commissioning, startup performance testing and operation by MPN
  • Ensure that interfaces between the project, contractor, O&M Contractor and MPN New Operations are managed to allow smooth flow of information and progress of the project
  • Participates in the commissioning phase, involving O&M Contractor & MPN personnel where possible
  • Support developing BTPO plan and ensuring completion of BTPO deliverables
  • Assists in the recruitment and training of the O&M technicians to enable them to operate and maintain the new facility to MPN expectations
  • Be a major participant in establishing the O&M Contract, delivery of O&M Services and eventual transition to full Operation & Maintenance by MPN
  • Facilitate the transfer of technology and experience of the project discipline specialists to the operations team, made up of Nigerian Nationals
  • Supports all O&M Contract Oversight activities
Task and Responsibilities
  • Provides operability, maintainability, and reliability input to Project Team and onshore facilities design
  • Ensures that design meets world-class safety standards and is able to be operated safely and reliably
  • Continually interfaces with MPN Operations and Maintenance to ensure that design meets MPN operating criteria
  • Coordinates design input of SMEs from MPN or New Operations at various design reviews and HAZOPs such that design is optimized between safety, reliability, and cost
  • Communicates with Operations and SHE management to ensure that they are continually updated with project progress and assures their full support of project design, plans, and execution
  • Provides input to Operations and Maintenance Staffing and Training Plans
  • Participates in Equipment Criticality & Strategies program:
  • Participates in the Spare Parts Inventory Development (SPID) process to determine optimum levels of operational spare parts for the power plant equipment
  • Provides guidance to IPES team inputting preventive maintenance data to the planned maintenance program
  • Develops Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSAs) to support ongoing maintenance of major equipment (GTGs and Compressors) and participates in the early execution of such.
  • Coordinates Operations input to SIMOPs planning and execution, such that the new facilities are constructed, commissioned, and started up without safety incident and with minimum disruption to existing production
  • Provides input to, and stewards the development of ‘Documents for Operations’ DFO). Including, but not limited to Operations & Maintenance procedures and training manuals
  • Participates as a member of the Systems Completion Team during commissioning and startup.
  • Coordinates participation of O&M Contractor, MPN Operations and Maintenance technicians and Engineers during Systems Completion
  • Ensures integration of Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) requirements into operations procedures and advises on the implications
  • Interfaces with:
  • Project Team, EPC Contractor, LTSA and O&M Providers
  • Power & Gas Marketing on PPA and connection agreements
  • Grid Operator on operational matters
  • New Operations and other group specialists in specific areas
  • Take a leading role in the development of:
  • KPIs for the Power Plant
  • All reporting formats and protocols applicable to the power plant
  • PPA Operations manual for the plant
Requirements
Qualification and Experience
  • Minimum of HNC in an appropriate engineering subject
  • High level of demonstrable power plant knowledge preferably with a combined cycle background.
  • Demonstrable Qualification and experience in High Voltage switchyard safety and operations
  • 15-20 years’ experience to include at least 10 years in a senior Operations or Maintenance position in large Gas Turbine Power Plants
  • Highly knowledgeable in the application of Work Management Systems
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Fluent in spoken and written the English language and highly capable in IT and standard software packages
