Location: Lagos

Reports To: Assistant Finance Manager

The British Council is looking for suitably qualified and experienced individual to fill the post of Finance Officer. This person must have the right to work in Nigeria.

Purpose of job: 

To support the delivery of the financial and business processes and systems.

To contribute to the development of British council Nigeria as an innovative and high performing country operation. To model the values and principles of an integrated operation and to ensure that we are aligned with the British Council regional and global priorities.

Context and environment: (e.g. dept description, region description, organogram)

Nigeria is the British Council’s largest operation in SSA with offices in 4 cities from Port Harcourt in the south to Kano in the north.

It delivers activity in all our Strategic Business Units, (Arts, English, Education and Society), and operates with both internal and external resources.

This post will play a support role in our resources/finance team.

Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:
(including people management and finance)

  • To provide support on Business processes with respect to audit/year end activities, trial balance/GL analysis and reconciliations.
  • To support the procurement process through monitoring of the vendor creation/amendment procedures and to provide assurance concerning the validity of potential vendors.
  • To assist in revenue management by timely collection, recording on SAP and reconciliation of all aspects of revenue.
  • To manage the payment process to high standards so as to ensure that all systems are working accurately, to time and meet BC corporate standards
  • To provide advice and direct support to other business teams to enable them complete their tasks on time and to ensure value for money impact for activities.
