Adexen Recruitment Agency is mandated by a major on line retail store organisation. The company is looking to recruit a Chief Financial Officer for their operations.

Job description

  • To ensure that the financial policies/procedures of the company are implemented efficiently in line with generally accepted Financial/Accounting practices and statutory requirements.
  • To ensure the ongoing financial health (the ability to fulfil financial obligations) of the company and safeguard the company’s financial assets.
  • To manage the Finance & Accounting Unit, and to develop and implement a modern cost effective accounting system that will meet the challenges and objectives of the company
  • He will report to the CEO/Board of directors


Responsibilities
The responsibilities for this office shall include but is not limited to the following:

  • Participates in business strategic planning process
  • Develop, review and circulate annual business planning guidelines/ assumptions to all departments;
  • Defines and communicates corporate accounting guidelines, including chart of accounts, periodic closing schedules as well as reporting requirements
  • Co-ordinate the Unit’s activities and ensure compliance with the organisation’s strategy and operating policies, controls and procedure
  • Co-ordinate the budget preparation, monitoring and control process, in line with agreed policies and procedures including:
  • Defines and communicates budgeting guidelines, processes, methods, roles and schedules
  • Assist business units within the company to maximise profit and minimise costs.
  • Prepares and manages organizational budgets, and make amendments based on approvals.
  • Analyse budget performance and identify and obtain explanations for significant variances.
  • Ensures required financial reports are provided to relevant units within the business on a timely basis.
  • Develops, communicates and implements corporate risk management policies and Ensure timely completion of monthly bank reconciliation
  • Supervise the upkeep and management of company fixed assets and stock inventory
  • Provide accounting support and guidance to all departments within the organisation
  • Facilitate the work of auditors and manage the resolution of arising issues
  • Manage the relationship with internal and external customers
  • Provide guidance to direct reports, manage their performance and facilitate their career development.
  • Contribute to the alignment of the department’s activities with leading practices on an ongoing basis
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the CEO/Board of Directors
  • Monitor, analyse and report on the company’s operating costs and expenditure.
  • Develop and implement cost control/ management strategies and system to ensure optimal utilisation of available financial resources.
  • Coordinate the periodic review of costs/ expenditure, identify and implement cost saving measures.
  • Plan, co-ordinate and control the financial analysis and evaluation of projects to provide relevant information for management decision making
  • Ensures all CAPEX and OPEX purchases are within budget, board approval and manual of authority
  • Supervise data input, post validation and control in the General Ledger
  • Conduct financial analysis on the company’s performance along defined indicators
  • Continually review activities of all units and make recommendations for improvement to the Unit Heads


Qualifications Experience

  • A good university degree plus an MBA degree
  • Professional accounting qualification which include: ACA, ACCA or its Equivalent
  • At least 6 years post-qualification experience, 4 of which must have been spent in a
  • Finance managerial role in a retail environment or any of the big accounting firms
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills - Oral & Written
  • Good organisational and planning skills
  • Result-oriented
  • Rigorous and in a continuous personal & professional improvement process
