Purpose
  • As Plan International embarks on a new global strategy to transform the lives of 100 million girls, it seeks to develop new and scale up strategic partnership opportunities to achieve transformational change for children.
  • The Global Partnerships Team (GPT) is part of the Global Influencing and Partnerships Department (GIP) at Plan International’s Headquarters.
  • The GPT works with Plan’s National Organisations and Country Offices to drive strategic engagement with the Private Sector, Foundations, UN Agencies and Multilateral Institutions to increase the influence and impact of Plan International’s work.
  • Under the guidance of the Global Partnerships Director, the Senior Global Partnerships Manager will support the rollout of a Private Sector Engagement Strategy across the Federation, and work with Plan Offices to proactively secure and develop new partnership opportunities with the private sector and select foundations.
  • This will include leading and coordinating Plan’s resource mobilisation efforts for Equal Measures 2030, an exciting multi-sectoral partnership focused on gender data for advocacy and action, as well as identifying and advancing private-sector partnership opportunities to strengthen Plan’s advocacy and gender transformative programming.
Main Responsibilities
Strategy Development and Implementation:
  • Work closely with Plan International’s Director of Global Partnerships and senior leadership to ensure the rollout and adoption of a Private Sector Engagement Strategy which supports ‘100 Million Reasons’, Plan’s five-year global strategy.
  • Provide input into the design and creation of a new Funding Model for the Federation, including advising on the development of any new fundraising products relevant to a corporate audience.
Business Development:

1.) Work with the Director of Global Partnerships to advance a new business strategy for corporate partnerships, monitoring progress against agreed objectives and plans.
  • Work with National Organisations and Country Offices to identify prospective new corporate partners and develop proposals and pitches to engage them.
  • Provide technical support to Plan Offices, advising on proposition development, overall strategy, set up and governance models.
  • Maintain line of sight of corporate partnerships (signed by other Plan entities) and regularly assess these with a view to maximising returns from these relationships.
  • Proactively identify, research and help develop new global alliances with the private sector that align to strategic initiatives.
  • Drive and manage the development of new propositions at Plan International Headquarters in support of strategic business needs.
  • Effectively engage Plan International’s CEO and senior leadership to help advance key relationships.
  • Work cross functionally with Plan Headquarters colleagues to support priority events, maximising opportunities to profile Plan’s partnerships and to advance relationships.
  • Represent Plan externally at global events, conferences, workshops and meetings.
2.) Work closely with the Equal Measures 2030 Secretariat based at Plan International to drive resource mobilisation efforts for this initiative:
  • Work closely with the EM2030 Secretariat and Partners to develop a resource mobilisation strategy.
  • Engage with Plan Offices to identify institutional, corporate and foundation funding opportunities, supporting pitch and proposal development.
  • Support the set-up of new funding relationships between Plan entities.
3.) Identify new ways for companies to engage with Plan’s Because I am a Girl (BIAAG) work, developing new products and propositions to leverage their influence and impact:
  • Represent the GPT on the BIAAG Management Board, supporting strategic planning, driving content and coordinating Federation engagement with BIAAG.
  • Design and rollout a corporate engagement strategy for Plan’s International Day of the Girl activities, securing buy-in from Plan Offices and new external partners.
Management:
  • Support the Director of Global Partnerships with annual planning/budgeting for the GPT.
  • Deputise for the GPT Director in his/her absence, including in departmental meetings, Federation-wide and external events, or on other occasions as necessary.
  • Participate in GIP management discussions where relevant and represent the GIP department on Federation-wide working groups.
  • Line manage the Global Partnerships Officer.
  • Provide day-to-day direction and peer review to Global Partnerships Team staff.

Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
  • To succeed in this challenging and varied role, you will have a demonstrable track record of successfully building partnerships with the private sector and other stakeholders, significant experience in fundraising, marketing and/or project management, particularly in creating large scale corporate partnerships and advanced knowledge of the international development sector and emerging corporate responsibility trends.
  • Effective internal and external relationship management, excellent communication skills and the ability to lead initiatives across multiple teams are essential.
  • Strong research, organisational and project management skills will be imperative as will the capacity to manage demanding workloads, independently and to deadlines.
Knowledge:
  • Significant relevant work experience in fundraising, marketing and/or project management, including work with the private sector, particularly in creating large-scale corporate partnerships, ideally at the international level.
  • Demonstrable track record of success building partnerships with the private sector and other stakeholders, which exhibits detailed technical knowledge and expertise.
  • Advanced knowledge of successful private sector partnerships and alliances, and emerging corporate responsibility trends.
  • Knowledge of current issues in international development.
Skills:
  • High-level communication skills, including engaging and informative public speaking.
  • Good leadership and supervisory skills, including coordinating group activities, ensuring that roles within project teams are clear, and experience of managing individuals.
  • Ability to build rapport with individuals and groups and maintaining an effective network of individuals across organisational departments.
  • Effective internal and external relationship management, often at senior level.
  • Strong research, organisational abilities, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including fluent written and spoken English.

  • Ability to travel internationally.

  • The role requires a high degree of independence, and involves considerable skill, expertise and cultural sensitivity to negotiate the complexities of multinational partner engagement, to enhance collaboration between offices, and to develop the capacity of staff worldwide.
  • The post holder also requires a high degree of flexibility to react to a continually evolving landscape, effectively managing change, and adapting priorities, resources and ways of working.
Working Relationships:
  • The post holder will regularly engage with senior staff at Plan Headquarters, including within the Global Influencing and Partnerships Department, the CEO’s Office, and the Legal and Financial teams.
  • Across the Federation, the post holder will be expected to build effective relationships with relevant senior staff across National Organisations, Regional and Country Offices.
  • This post holder will be required to represent Plan externally at events and in meetings with C-Suite executives at multinational corporations and foundations, with consultants and with senior contacts at peer INGOs, multilateral institutions, business forums and other partner institutions.
Level of Contact with Children:
  • Low contact: No contact or very low frequency of interaction.
Salary
£50-60000 per annum.
