Job Title: LGA Technical Advisor

Location:
Bade & Machina, Fika, Yobe

Job Summary
  • The Local Government Area Technical Advisors will be based in Bade/Machina/Fika, Yobe State and report to the Area Project Manager.
  • He/she will support the assigned local government area (LGA) in nutrition program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • He/she will ensure free flow of information and support coordination of activities between Action Against Hunger, its government counterparts and other partners.
  • The Local Government Area Technical Advisor will also provide technical support to the coordination of micro nutrient supplementation and Maternal New Born and Child Health (MNCH) including strengthening the technical and advocacy capacity at the LGA level.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Providing technical support in planning, implementation and monitoring of key IYCF interventions by working closely with the nutrition focal persons (NFP) and MCH expert at LGA level.
  • Working closely with NFP to support operational researches to identify barriers and facilitators of optimal breastfeeding and complimentary feeding practices.
  • Ensuring community nutrition volunteers are working together with IYCF support group.
  • Supporting the development of key messages and behavioral change communication materials to promote optimal infant and young child feeding practices.
  • Planning and providing training for health workers, community volunteers and key community figures (traditional leaders, religious leaders and hair dressers and others) to promote optimal breastfeeding and complimentary feeding practices.
  • Ensuring all key IYCF messages are integrated with all maternal, child and newborn health programs and all contacts are used properly and efficiently to deliver the messages.
  • Organizing and conducting meetings with NFP, MCH expert, M&E expert and others at LGA on both a regular and adhoc basis.
  • Providing technical support in the preparation of annual, quarterly, and monthly plans on IYCF/MNCHWs and nutrition in general.
  • Facilitating the formation of LGA committee on food and nutrition and Provide technical guidance and  support to the  committee.
  • Providing training and support to ensure evidence based advocacy by the LGA counterpart in order to leverage resources and increase authorities’ commitment.
  • Working closely with LGA counterpart and team on development of feedback mechanisms to health facilities and communities.
  • Sensitizing key stakeholders (primary & secondary) on rights to quality health services.
Requirements
The successful candidate will:
  • Have a minimum of bachelor's degree with a major in Health, Public Health and/or Nutrition.
  • Have experience in emergency nutrition work and the design and implementation of feeding programs (ideally IYCF, CTC/CMAM), including IYCF monitoring and evaluation.
  • Have the capacity to supervise, train and coach staff.
  • Have excellent Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word), strong negotiation skills with behavior change and ability to write reports.
  • Have excellent communication skills and willingness to be sensitive and flexible.
  • Be committed to Action Against Hunger aims, values and principles.
  • Be fluent in written and spoken English, Hausa and Fulani.
  • Have the ability to work as part of a team and work under pressure with strict deadlines.
  • Have previous experience working with partners, including the government agencies as well as mothers support group.
