Responsibilities:
The Senior Project Pipeline Engineer is accountable for leading a team of engineers who provide pipeline engineering and operations / maintenance expertise for all phases of design and execution in terms of concept selection,development of basis for design through construction,commissioning and start-up of pipeline projects.

Other responsibilities include:
  • Provide technical expertise and technical review capabilities in the area of Pipeline engineering for oil and gas projects and operations; these can be onshore as well as offshore.
  • Based on the predicted process data,contribute to the definition of the functional requirements of the pipeline system in respect of volumes,pressures,temperatures including corrosion tolerance and calculation of wall thickness using requisite tools.
  • Develop pipeline system specifications,e.g. operating envelopes,pressure controls and safeguarding,metering and constraints for operation of the pipeline system. Design the pipeline system for stability and strength against environmental and operational loads.
  • Perform option evaluations,and QCs on Pipeline engineering work. This includes pipeline route identification,surveys and selection to reduce environmental impact; design of emergency shutdown systems and special pipeline components,risers and tie-ins; coatings and liners and insulation/heat tracing. Carry out cost estimates for the various options.
  • Apply and ensure availability of requisite licenses and permits.
  • Provide pipeline-engineering Technical Authority (TA) role for the development of detail design,construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning specifications and procedures.
  • Review Contractor’s HSE and quality plans in order to ensure compatibility with Nigerian and Standards and specifications.
  • Identify and evaluate process hazards,develop hazardous area classification,and contribute to the development of HEMP documentation.
  • Participate in pipeline projects audits / reviews,Hazops,Hazard and QRAs during concept development,conceptual and detailed design basis. Implement recommendations of the Environmental Impact Assessments studies in the pipeline designs and specifications.
  • Maintain frequent contact with other pipeline engineers in order to disseminate best practices,work practices and quality control systems.
  • Manage delegated authorities of any contracts as per the Contract Management Guideline with special emphasis on the HSE issues of the contractor.
  • Collate/prepare progress reviews and financial performance reports as required.
  • Coach and mentor sub-ordinates and ensure that all members of the team have personal development plans and also receive coaching and mentoring.
  • Participate in SPDC mentoring scheme for young graduates.
  • Develop own skills and competence in line with changing business needs and technical advances in discipline. Evaluate and capture new knowledge and learning.

Requirements:
  • A University degree in a technical engineering discipline (preferably Mechanical Engineering)
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in oil and gas operations, of which 4 years in pipeline project engineering and front-end engineering design, and some experience in pipeline operations and maintenance.
  • An understanding and in depth knowledge of a broad range of pipeline-engineering systems, tools and practices, and a thorough understanding of project economics
  • Working knowledge of of corrosion management and pipeline maintenance practice.
  • Familiar with International pipeline standards.
  • Good interpersonal, leadership and negotiating skills.
  • Well-developed communications skills (i.e. report writing and presentation) and ability to cope with complexity and uncertaintyare essential.
