Job Title: Gear Man

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance of activities with Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER)
- Ensure implementation of lifting activities meets company Lifting Equipment Control and Operations Procedures.
- Review prior issue and approve operations lifting plans & risk assessments
- Ensure operations supervisor carries out operations in a controlled and safe manner, in compliance with lift plans & risk assessments.
- Inspects new lifting gear received into the gear locker and generate registers and log books to maintain accountability based on equipment identification numbers.
- Inspect according pre-use checks and document any anomolies prior to issuing gear.
- Tag out damaged or unserviceable gear, report damages to the Marine Shift Manager, and supervises the destruction of the equipment within their shift to prevent unauthorized use.
- Updates, modifies and maintains accountability for the entire inventory of the gear locker.
- Obtains daily lifting requirements from the Operations Planning department for Out-of-Gauge (OOG) lifting gear to arrange equipment based on needs and coordinates with operations to maintain operational efficiency.
- Maintains accountability by developing logs to sign in/out lifting gear, safety equipment and ladders in/out of the gear locker.
- Reports all lost or stolen lifting gear to the shift manager and initiates investigations with HSE and Security to recover equipment.
- Assess effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continual improvement of performance.
Requirement
Who we are looking for
- Education: Senior Secondary Certificate.
- Five (5) years experience in various in operations or technical with duties involving loose lifting gear.
- Experience with automation systems and proficiency in Word and Excel.
- Must have or successfully obtain the Lifting Operation and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) certificate within six months of employment.
- Ensure lifting equipment is of adequate strength and stability for each load particularly when stress may be induced at mounting or fixing points.
- the yard/vessel planning and inventory.
- Requires good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Requires exceptional time management and multitasking capablities due to fast-moving and demanding work environment.
- The person(s) undertaking a Lifting plans and pre-use examination must be a competent person is someone who has received appropriate academic and practical knowledge and has sufficient experience to enable them to discover imperfections or weaknesses in the equipment. This is likely to be a combination of experience, training and appropriate qualifications.
Must be able to exercise good judgment in order to set priorities.
